yelleena and we would love to try and get some answers for her. Help?
Gardening question: Carrots
Does anyone know how to grow carrots properly? Particularly in containers rather than direct in the soil. I've been using large syraphome boxes for my carrots because I have to have a raised garden bed.
The first batch I did had issues with splitting, which I am told was primarilly due to them getting too much water or fertilizer. We had a hell of a lot a rain in this period so I worked out that it was probablly water as I don't fertilize carrots.
The current batch are whole, hearty and taste great but mutated. I have one that looks like a 6 fingered monkey's paw, another that spiralled, and yet another that looks normal for the first inch then twists and started growing in the wrong direction.
Any ideas please would be helpful.
I'm using a relativly bland potting mix, not too much water and no fertilizer. I don't have a way to test PH as yet.
