I used to have two aquariums. One was goldfish, the other was tropical fish. Both were fresh water.
Once the fish started dying of old age, we stopped replacing them because we've had the tanks active since like 2000 or something like that. We only have one goldfish left, and he's pushing 10 years of age. We bought him at a carnival and nearly killed him on the trip home, yet he's still alive!
I've got a bunch of neon tetras (cuz they tend to school together and they are colorful), a few tiger barbs, a few black mollies, a pictus catfish, and one big old goldfish that I won at some carnival game years ago. I have to keep them well fed otherwise the tiger barbs go after the little tetras, but otherwise they all get along.
