RIP IndyCar...
In an emergency meeting of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway board of directors today, the decision was made to fire IndyCar Series CEO Randy Bernard.
Bernard's efforts as CEO have been almost solely responsible for the quality of the series this past year and it's more positive profile in the public eye. Unless the IMS board has something good in their back pocket, this decision will ultimately bring the end of the IndyCar Series.
NASCAR's execs are smiling ear to ear at this news.
RIP IndyCar,m it was fun while it lasted.

But the cars has gotten to the point that you have to be ultra rich to run the season. Plus they've kicked out all of the independent team who did have some good drivers but not the cold hard cash to compete with the factory teams. NASCAR is on the same path as it is. They've peaked over few years ago and are trying to hold on...
The new IndyCars look look like Formula One cars...go figure...
But the biggest problem they have is that innovation has gone out the window. At one time you had different engine, tire, and oil companies sponsoring these cars and putting their products to the test.
Just like Hollywood...IndyCar and NASCAR need to go back to their roots and start all over again.
IndyCar is restrictive out of necessity right now - with the economy in the shitter and all the damage Tony George did beforehand they can't be as wide open as they'd like to be. Going "back to their roots" isn't going to solve anything.
But the fact remains, almost every bit of good press the series has gotten in recent years is down to Randy Bernard's efforts - it was Bernard who got Chevy back into the series, his efforts allowed the series to break even money-wise, and it was his efforts that gave us the cars the produced the best racing in the entire world this year(save possibly for V8 Supercars).
