Cold hard truth? Lots of porn, and if that doesn't work, lots of gay porn. Believe me, if it required hard work, you'd be one of the ''popufurs'', because your art is more phenomenal than most of them as far as my opinion goes.

Then there's excepts like who never does mature work but still rather famous.

Actually she did some, but this is obviously not the reason why she's famous.

Deni did porn? That's something I need to see :P

Go find it, I won't link it here - there is an average of one or two mature works on each page of her gallery.

Mature for adult content and nothing more, there's never any genitals or even nipples shown in her stuff, but you're right, there are at least 5 mature drawings in her gallery, for adult humor mostly :3

I realized that  falvie is one of the pop-furs who actually never made anything mature or adult.
A less interesting random fact is that she registered exactly 21 minutes later than I did (2 years ago). She has over 18000 watchers now while I only have 29.
Maybe I should draw more.

Submissions, commissions, raffles, auctions, people giving them credit for any commissions/raffles/auctions that they do, friends who already have FA or dA accounts, journal entries, and even people seeing their art/work on other sites (as long as credit is given and a link to their FA page is provided on those sites) helps a lot.

Porns, porns, porns and porns.

Other methods which weren't mentioned yet: gift/fan art for the pop-furs. They will fav it, maybe even repost it so all of their watchers will see how awesome you are.


I also know someone who makes awesome paintings (almost all of them is general) and has only 900 watchers.

Art and interaction. Journals, posts, comments. Like that.

Now I was able to get above 1000 Watchers in a little over a year without Porn, but you need to make sure you hit the others. Mine was generally in volume of output, attractive characters (to some), quality and interaction. Most people wuill fave a pretty female image, as they are pleasing to look at.

Ignore the above posters who mention porn, you really don't want to be the kind of popular gay furry porn artists are. Their popularity is artificial; people don't truly like them for their art, they like them because of the erotic content only. In order to be popular like that you have to draw a lot of stuff you probably won't enjoy drawing, and will have to cater to every IM and request to draw more of what they want, because if you stray from their tastes, they will dump ya and move onto the next porn artist that suits their fetishes.

Also, a lot of drama seems to follow every porn artist, I don't think *that* kind of popularity is worth it.

For how I got this far... well... For years I worked on the game "Neopets". Drawing my characters, never drew for anyone else. Then got on a different game and started making pixel icons for myself. Then got that "pixel icon popularity", ended up drowning myself with those as commissions for others. Slowly branched from that and started taking digital and traditional stuff for those who kept getting icons. One day, I drew some adult work and then.. Bam... It's what I got "popular" with. Been known for adult work for the passed two-two and a half years now. Sometimes I don't enjoy it as much as one would think. It's just a drawing, work. But my mindset is totally crazed up. Yes, it's work. Yes, it's something I'm best at. Yes, sometimes, though rare, I may not enjoy it. But work is work and it's be my way to survive.

That's kinda how I got this far, just shortened by a lot for the passed, I dunno, eight years? Lol It varies between popular ones.
