Recently I've seen some streams where artists are using a drawing program that allows them to rotate the canvas easily and paint-to-select areas to reposition them. Can anyone tell me what it's called?
It's about 60$ USD, which for art programs and what SAI offers is like one of the best deals out there. Worth every penny in my opinion, although it doesn't have the filter effects and text tool like PS has, but that's alright if you have both. You can sketch, ink and colour in SAI, then add some color and photo effects or text stuff in PS. Also, the exporting and bicubic resizing is better in PS, so you'll still have a way of using it.
Yeah, I had to switch back n' forth between Photoshop and Sai a bunch when I was learning it. Most of my pics nowadays are Sai alone from sketch to completion. I do like that Sai can read/write in PSD format, it makes it really handy if you do need to switch.
I agree as well, although I find that if you sometimes leave layers in either Overlay, luminosity or something, either SAI or PSD will have a hard time reading it. Mostly on Photoshops side, so it's just one more reason I've given up on that program. I only really use it for final effects and such, to make the colors stand out more. Photoshop is still a decent photo editing program, it's just...bloatware for mostly everything else.
Sadly it does not. Like I said, photoshop still is good for using filters, but SAI is mostly just for creating. However, you can sav files in SAI as .PSD so you can easily switch between the two

Costs 5250 yen, which works out to 50-some dollars American. Best inking tool I've ever found.

Hope this helps!
I hope you find Sai as big of a step up for drawing as I have.
