And as a Brit, I'm sorry our food is awful.
Other than that the UK doesn't really have a style of food these days, we all just eat the stuff that's been introduced over the years like curry, pizza, kebabs. There are a few various regional dishes like Cottage Pie, Three Bird Game Roast and Yorkshire Pudding but they aren't anything special, just really soothing after a long day or if theirs lots of people over. I guess the best thing to try is traditional real ales and cheeses if you visit again.
As for the stereotypical foods like tripe and jellied eels, nobody eats that crap anymore, not since the 50's :S
McDonalds is the worst of the fast food chains by far and we do have much better food than even the best of the fast food outlets [I'm only still learning and even I make better food than any fast food place I've been to here.]
Note: I dislike my own country and many of our foods [curry is the national food and most curries we have are fucked up, you can't taste the flavors for the overdone heat.] I just feel that I should defend us a little as I know for a fact we make damn good food cause I make it myself and I've barely even started :3
The thing is with American beers is... well, it's a different kind of beer really. It's often made in slightly different ways, meant to be enjoyed differently, but you do get shitty lagers here in the UK too, but recently ale sales have been surpasing lager, so it seems more people are switching to the good stuff. If you go to a weatherspoons pub, you can get a delicious pint of guest ale (locally brewed ales which are known as the "Guest Ales", which change every couple of weeks) for like.. £1.50 - £2 a pint and a hearty, feel good breakfast / lunch for a couple of quid more. SORTED.
They come from Belgium.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

?
We only got good snacks :(
No dinner.. Whatever, let's have some nice pasta!
But its been 30+ years since I've had any :P
Should have tried some normal pizzeria in a smaller town.
The food they serve there, I mean. They sometimes sell lingonberry jam and whatnot, and that's pretty awesome.
So sadly true...
If I ever return to Iceland, I'm going to Keflavik. And I'm eating my heart out there at that little restaurant.
Now, British food? Ugghh. Let's not go there. It took one day to realize I was better off looking for fast food options, or name-brand pizzerias. It's a double whammy. The food is awful, AND expensive. :P
I'm surprised you feel like Britain had crap. They have good dishes in my opinion and I've found a rare few things here in the States they make there. Surprisingly, stuff made like in the UK is great!
Surprisingly, I'm not British, and not fully white (about 2/3 white), and am an albino when you consider my skin condition... I like eating Asian and Middle-eastern style foods...
As the CEO of a bank!

MEH, Fuck the pizza man, try some Lasagne alla Bolognese, well paid money for sure.
