Also, programs like SAI aren't even compatible with Macs.
Hard drive space is storage, not memory.
Plus, I'd recommend Lenovo and ASUSTeK Computer [ASUS]
Stay away from Dell
So yes, stay away from dell unless you're getting something worth spending the extra few bucks on an extended warranty.
My school uses their Precision workstations instead of the Optiplex clients
As to Manufacturer with laptops there is only a few companies making them and others put thier names on them. Till recently I've had very good luck with Toshiba
Dell's MoBos are crap anyway. If that were to happen, then the Alienware brand would loose its reputation.
Most gaming PCs uses Motherboards from Taiwanese companies.
Most motherboards regardless of gaming, business, or budget come from only a few fabs that are mostly in Taiwanese
You want a desktop with decent processing power and a decent GPU.
The model 2730p is a Tablet pc, which is perfect for art.
But, it's a great laptop.
Also if you sign up for their Dell Advantage you can get Free Shipping, and a gift card for 5% of your order total.
Shameless Plug time:
In fact I've got two of those giftcards... worth about $115 total. If you'd be willing to do some commission work for them it'd make me quite happy. Hehe

You can consider this one as well, Lenovo has a very good track record. If you are going to use the laptop for art best to get a laptop that has an I7 processor. That along with the 8 Gigs of Ram will run your art applications perfectly.
Same here as to fixing computers, generally its the cost of parts that is the only issue.

It's a bit heavy to carry around, but it has a nice sized monitor and lots of memory. My husband has that first one I linked, he's replaced his desktop with it and just plugs in a second monitor to it.

Intel i5 and 4 GB RAM. If you're not looking to play videogames in their highest graphics settings, you really don't need to spend more than $500.
You're right, though. Intel's integrated graphics have come a long way, and the 4000 series is pretty decent for most tasks, including light to moderate Photoshop work.
Basic art programs like PS don't require all that much power according to Task Manager and I usually run music, skype, firefox, etc in the background while I draw.
