Some Things I Don't Understand
General
There are a lot of things in this fandom. A lot. And while some things I think are way beyond my realm of knowledge (or I just flat-out don't want to know what the deal with them are), a few are relatively commonplace and I just don't see the rational behind them. If anyone can help me understand the appeal/reasoning behind any of the following, please give me a hand:
-Transformation
-Having a Pokesona (as a main fursona, I see the appeal in a Pokemon OC)
-Having a character with multiple tails
-Making your fursona an extreme badass
-Fursuits that have six-pack abs on them
-Adoptables (why some people buy them, ect.)
-Centaur characters
-Having a large cast of characters (10+)
-Macro
Keep in mind, these are not things I hate, I'm just confused as to why they're so prevalent, or why someone might add them to their character. Is it just something I'm missing? Or am I just overthinking it?

FA+

I have like
30 characters oh my god
I'm sorry I just love worldbuilding omfg they're literally all relations of my main characters (the Donovan family is huge and Southern)
As for everything else you mentioned: people are stupid.
-Transformation ...I think they want to turn into their 'sona so bad, it became their fetish.
-Having a Pokesona (as a main fursona, I see the appeal in a Pokemon OC) ...probably the same thing with buying adoptables, though marginally less retarded.
-Having a character with multiple tails ...not too bad, forktails are kinda cool I guess but don't go overboard.
-Making your fursona an extreme badass ...2edgy4u... and a Mary Sue complex: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MarySue
-Fursuits that have six-pack abs on them ...3cool5u... and lack of taste
-Adoptables (why some people buy them, ect.) ...they are pants-on-head retarded. New comers see having a fursona as a requirement to be furry, but they are too indecisive/uncreative to create a fursona, and they are very bad with money.
-Centaur characters ...you think that's bad? Have you seen the sparkledogs? Or the chakats? Chakats creep me out :S
-Macro ...I got nothing. I honestly have no clue on this one.
and artists who want a quick way to make some bank without having to spend any real effort (commishions or selling a print)
-Having a Pokesona (as a main fursona, I see the appeal in a Pokemon OC) bandwaggon OC, and lack of creativity
-Having a character with multiple tails "OMFG I GOTTA HAF KITSUNEEEEE!!!!"
-Making your fursona an extreme badass: Compensation for flaws in their real life, large muscles on fursona usually means fatass in real life, etc etc
-Fursuits that have six-pack abs on them: this i really do not get, the purpose of a fursuit is to play out the role as your fursona, not to act buff and shit, in my view anyway
-Adoptables (why some people buy them, ect.) : adoptables are the snake oil of the furry fandom, people buy one because they are desperate for a fursona and to lazy/unoriginal to make their own designs. the funny part is most of the adoptables are just re-colors of each other
-Centaur characters : again, i'd be a hypocrite if i bashed this, because for a while kiboe was a collie taur.....and now he's a brightly colored corgi....yeah
-Having a large cast of characters (10+) : alternate fursona's , each character highlights a certain trait of their personality or them as a person? anything really.
-Macro: eh, i'm kind of neutral on this
we like talking human-like animals, INCLUDING horses, so, ergo, they are furry 2.0, they also havn't learned the "dont-give-a-fuck-what-people-say" that the furries have mastered years ago, they will attack you and spam you to oblivion if you even so much try to call them out for being hypocrites for saying "furries are animal fuckers" when said people favorite and enjoy....sexual situations with the pony characters, which makes them pedophiles, but, another rant for another time.
oh, and anyone that argues the meaning of "anthropomorphic"
merriam-webster definition:
Definition of ANTHROPOMORPHIC
1
: described or thought of as having a human form or human attributes <anthropomorphic deities>
2
: ascribing human characteristics to nonhuman things <anthropomorphic supernaturalism>
HUMAN CHARACTERISTICS, MEANING THAT THE PONIES ARE ANTHROPOMORPHIC.

About the others, it's really hard to say. People just like what they like! Having 50 fursonas, though, sound silly
The idea of turning into an animal (or whatever one desires) can be a deep longing. The pain it would inevitably bring can be a masochistic pleasure, something could have happened in their childhood that somehow turned into a fascination with it, they might have a thing for werewolves, there's also the thrill of the process, and sometimes it can be funny if you change it up a little.
I can't speak for everyone, but I could go on and on about each topic either way. It really all boils down to different people and different experiences in life.
One more thing I wanna bring up though. I myself have LOTS of characters. Reason being, I just drew whatever came to mind before I started posting online and my spirit was harshly crushed. That, and back when I was into Sonic, I drew many many different designs and animals before I finally picked my Sonic FC.
I always felt bad flat out scrapping characters, so I keep them around and some of my favorite ones, I advanced on and gave lives and such.
I shall call him Duino. :3
-Transformation : For some they like the helplessness or the body horror fetish realm. Others just enjoy the moment or two to be something else on a whim living as someone or something else. Then again, there are a few who do it for humorous reasons at their own expense.
-Having a Pokesona (as a main fursona, I see the appeal in a Pokemon OC) : Pretty much that. They like pokemon, it was for the newer furries what Robin Hood was to older ones. Animals, cute, toony, and acting a bit more than usual like people. So this stays a comfy realm for a few of them or they may not be the most creative types to think of better. I have noticed most every single pokesona creator is barely old enough to drink if at all.
-Having a character with multiple tails: Not quite sure myself..... Anyways it's more for you to pull or tie into a knot, so don't kvetch! ;3
-Making your fursona an extreme badass : Same reason people drive hummers. I detest most of these as they also seem to be the extreme powergamers too, and can't figure out why nobody will RP with them. You know, the "I PUT UP A FORCEFIELD AND THE ANVIL BOUNCES OFF" guys.....
-Fursuits that have six-pack abs on them : I prefer soft toony belly, and honestly with fur or feathers we'd never see them. Guess they wanna be muscly?
-Adoptables (why some people buy them, ect.) : BECAUSE I DOODLED A NAMELESS OCTOPENGUIN FROM SHEER BOREDOM AND WANNA BE PAID FOR IT. Oh, as far as buying them... no clue.
-Centaur characters : All I can ever figure out is they want more paws or to be ridden like a pony. I always ask if their father was a caterpillar and they get mad.
-Having a large cast of characters (10+) : I can understand a few (have some myself) but playing them all I can't really grasp. Everyone I've run across who does this with a dozen or more seems to always fancy themselves a writer and think they can make them all solid personalities and weave some tapestry like Scheherazade, but they don't realize the rest of us think they're vapid one-dimensional plot devices.
-Macro : They wanna be big, stomp things and get rage out in a silly often-mindless fashion. Like when the pizza guy arrives and you want to just see what happens if you pay him and proceed to throw the pizza on the ground and storm off. I'm not into it myself, but what toon doesn't want a t-rex, giant wallaby, or such to hassle and step on things for them?
