Communist/Soviet Party whatever-info!
WOOO! It's been a hectic past couple o' weeks, let me tell you.
-Communist/Soviet (whatever) party is DEFINITELY ON, despite whatever weird rumors/death-threats/ritualistic chanting you've heard. It will be hosted on the PARTY FLOOR of the Marriott,
Saturday night, starting at 7:30 PM. (Room # TBA).
For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's a parodical shindig celebrating all things 'Commie'. Balkan and eastern European beats, imported Russian snackies, and the finest cocktails my weird head can come up with. I just wanted to give people some more information in a standard location than hearsay or what people might remember from years prior, and give a little background on why exactly I bump out a bunch of obnoxious Communist music all over the place.
First, a few notes about the party:
-I've heard from a lot of people when I invite them that 'they don't drink'. Show up anyway! Even just to say hello. I stock all sorts of non-alcoholic drinks, from standby's like Coca-Cola and water, to more fancy things like Oranchitto (Russian orange soda) and Kvass. I understand if you don't being around the 'party scene', but it means the world to me for everybody to show up and at least let me see their faces, even if just to nab a cold drink and head back out for the rest of the con. If you'd like to come later, generally around midnight we change to a new music set and go for a more 'lounge' type of after-party.
-Our mixed drinks are not 'night enders'. I've taken plenty of food service and medical courses in my college-times, and the last thing I want to see is someone wheeled out on a stretcher. The cocktails will be non-carbonated (as to not get into your system too fast), non-caffeinated, and have an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 8% or less. They will be made with less than 3 ingredients (counting alcohol as one ingredient), with plenty of mixer to keep the hydration levels up. With that said, please do not binge drink, rest between your libations, and please, please drink water, I know you're not looking for a hangover or worse, and neither am I. Drink responsibly.
-This party is funded entirely out-of-pocket, and we are going to be donating a portion of our proceeds the following day to the Little Blue Society charity, via Further Confusion. Anything you can tip will go directly to those ends, or to recoup costs, it is entirely a not-for-profit enterprise, I do it because, well, I love doing it.
Let me outline the drinks, so you can get a feel for what sort of things we'll be serving. (Subject to change, but most likely not)
Klukva [Russian for "Cranberry"] - A simple, tart mix of home-infused cranberry vodka and cranberry juice cocktail, refreshing and light!
Tsar's Blood [Tsari Krovi] - A mix we had fiddled with at FC 2012, and refined this past few months. Home-infused blueberry vodka and a 50/50 mix of black tea and lemonade (the more clever of you might know this as an 'Arnold Palmer'), another smooth drink with a pleasant mouthfeel.
[NEW FOR 2013]
In homage to our convention theme this year, the Communist party will be BLASTING OFF with..
Rocket Fuel! [Raketa Toplivo] - A mix I had also been tinkering with for most of this year, the more difficult part was sourcing some of the ingredients, and not getting too tipsy in the tasting phases. The final mix consists of:
-Becherovka, a Czech herbal bitters, akin to Jagermeister, with cinnamon, clove and anise flavors.
-Nemiroff Honey-pepper vodka, a Ukranian pertsovka, a traditional flavored blend of honey and red chili pepper!
-Stolichnaya Hot jalapeño vodka, pretty much explains itself!
-Barsotti Spiced Apple cider, a locally sourced, natural apple cider.
This drink does have bite to it, but in the ratios we've worked out, it only makes itself known, it doesn't crash your mouth-party. That being said, this is more of a sipping cocktail, not something you can glug down in a few minutes. Give it a few swirls while you're drinking it to keep the mix together, as the cider will want to settle after an extended period of time.
In closing, I really hope we have a great turnout this year, I love throwing this thing, and having it on the horizon, as well as Further Confusion, gives me a little boost in the slow parts of the year. Please come, dance, drink, and share in one of the unique parties that FC has to offer!
Be safe at this coming FC, and go visit the Klingon Party as well!

It's all in the name of fun.
Awesome I can't wait to enjoy another Communist Party!
Da.
If it burns, I'll drink it. No window washer or brake fluid though, please — only ethyl alcohol.
Увидимся, Товарищ!
