A tragedy in Connecticut.
I've pissed people off in the past when I pointed out the "No guns allowed" sign on the library doing nothing more than telling criminals they will meet NO armed resistance.
So...IF you're going to designate an area as "Gun free" they you should be held responsible to ensure that it is indeed gun free. Metal detectors, limited access and armed guards. Otherwise, you should be held responsible as an accessory to murder if the people wrongly assuming that they were safe because you said there were no guns were in fact lied to by you.
Insane? Not as much as you would think. Back in 1999 an armed gunman shot and killed several people at one of the Xerox buildings in Hawaii. Xerox was SUED because they maintained a "No guns on the property" policy. Along the lines of failing to provide for the safety of their employees.
This asshole that shot up the school in Connecticut. He got the rifle and other weapons from his mother. They were registered in her name. So either she GAVE them to him, or she failed to secure them. Personally, I hope they try her as an accessory to murder.
The tragedy here isn't just the incident in the school. But more deeply, it is the consistent under funding of mental health care in the United States over the past 40 years.
Texas State Representative Jim "Cut cut cut" Keffer ® is a classic example of what's wrong.
Cut Federal spending. The States should pay for it.
Cut State spending. The Counties should pay for it.
Cut County spending. The Cities should pay for it.
Cut City spending. The citizens should pay for it.
And the net result is NOTHING gets done.

FA+

But her son shot her dead with her own guns.
That she failed to properly secure.
Ironic?
What goes around, comes around.

I very much like & completely support this ides.
she wad the first victim as is often the case in these situations
It'd not just mental health. Its getting hate and fear talk like glen beck, fox "news " and limbsugh off the air. These mass killings are ramping up because the hateful rhetoric is ramping up.
Yes I'm for going back to stronger weapon laws. But doing more about mental health and hateful propaganda will do more good in the long run.
America has a serious mental sickness about guns that no other country on earth had. We nerd to realize that before any progress can be made
Also the person broke tons of laws, that didn't help. Look up the mass knife/sword attacks on school children in China, or bombings etc. What one person considers hateful propaganda is what another person agrees with in principle and that starts the slope. as an example, while I detest the westburro (how ever its spelt) idiots and I think they should not be able to interrupt funerals and the like. They do have the right to their speech, just not in the way they do it.
Tale a look at why we have such a history of guns, why its in the second amendment. Take a look at just this century what happened when guns were removed. The courts have already said the police have no obligation to protect you. This came out when a woman who had been held in her apt for days managed to call the police came twice and didn't investigate and she sued.
Like the poor farmer in England who had to go to jail after 2 teens robbed him multiple times and the police did nothing and he took his shotgun on the 3rd or 4th time and sadly did end up killing one of the teens. Even Gandhi had things about self defense and defending someone.
While it may be the media that gives us more coverage, mass killings are actually down according to the reports I have been reading. It doesn't make this any less tragic and even one is too many of course.
You are also right about the mental health aspect as well.
