Wanting to seem smart and feel safe can make you into a jerk

Fair warning, this is weighing in on recent drama.

A commissioner has had a chargeback issued on his account, putting all sorts of recently commissioned artists is trouble. Now there are probably maybe one or two people in the entire world who fully understand what's going on here, depending on what actually went down. This might be a hacker, it might be a vengeful ex, it might be the commissioner themselves.
But there is an ugly, ugly trend in the way people are treating this guy, and it's the exact same trend that has been seen on countless other PayPal disputes: People who will take one look and insist, %100 that this person is a scammer who is screwing people over.
Yes, PayPal has a number of safeguards in place, but honestly, just look at the number of previous times this has gone down. This has happened before, with everything being rectified, and there have and still will be people who insist beforehand (or even after) that it was all a big scam, because there is "simply no way" that it could have happened by a malicious party.
Really?
In my view the big problem here is people's twofold desires to not look like a sucker, and to feel safe in the world. We see this all the time with conspiracy theories. "How could a small group of terrorists possibly get past all our safeguards and kill scores of innocent people? No no, the government had to have planned it somehow." This is actually significantly less scary, that some shadow government organized the whole thing, than the simple and frightening truth: Sometimes, bad things happen for no reason, despite our best efforts to avoid them.
Now maybe this guy is a "scammer." Maybe he's trying to get a bunch of art for free, or suddenly decided he wanted his money back and did it the dick way. But we don't know for sure. And so that's really neither here nor there. No, what's more important is that the idea that it is absolutely, simply IMPOSSIBLE for something this awful to happen to him must be believed certain people.
Because if it could happen to him, it could happen to them.
So for their own peace of mind, he has to be, he must be a scammer. Because if he's not, than maybe the world is a lot scarier than they first thought. Maybe something like this could happen to someone who did no wrong.
Well to those people? I suggest perhaps it might be time to look inwards, and grow a little bit. I for one believe in innocence until proven guilty.

FA+

This kind of shit can happen, and at the moment it not only caused a bunch of artists to get pissed of at a person without proof, but they also sent a giant wave of watchers to troll and do death threads to the individual for no reason (who by the way can barely speak english)
It's shameful really :<
It is shameful, unfortunately. This happens every now and then, and I think it really speaks to one of the weaker aspects of the furry community, which is that because it's so close-knit, when someone is perceived as possibly being an outsider/scammer/troll/etc., they are reviled and burned at the stake before things can be brought to light.
And yes, the lack of fluency in Spanish is exacerbating the problem, I'm sure. :\ Which is a whole other shameful issue.
i got myself banned once from 1 place become someone hacked my account preventing me from playing even making new account(its reason i cannot play planet side 2 while everyone else does)
drama happens regardless of reasons and 1 idiot will for sure make others believe him but i already said more then i wanted
I don't know who this "idiot" you're referring to is, but if you aren't going to be respectful to everyone involved, please don't comment on this journal.
im not sure whats going on but it looks like another witch burning before anything was confirmed , artist who started it should be most likely burned on same pile he made
It may not be guy foult and i was myself very falsely accused because of shallowness of fandom making me once almost leave it forever (having 50 people leaving shouts you should kill yourself or other mean stuff stops being fun after you hear it over and over)
And the death threats, ugh, really? I wish FA would ban people for that kind of thing, but I'm honestly not sure if they do or not...
