I do. Nothing really sticks with you if you're forced to read something you don't want to.

I can read things 300 page works in a few days, but I can't seem to even focus reading my literature assignment for almost a few minutes. My brain just screams for entertainment.

I can too, but only if I find it interesting. If it's boring and unappealing, but I'm still forced to do it for a grade and such, then I'll trudge through it, not taking much in. My mind wonders off, but my eyes still following the words.

Doesn't help me when it's terrible drama, where's apparently, death is a requirement. Most of them is badly written/presented/just bad.

The one I'm reading has an aspiring maestro suffering from boring relationship problems, fixing them, and ultimately dying form tripping and falling face first into the ground on the night of his first concert.

Hooray ... *sarcasm*

I'm not one for drama/romance books. Those are the worst for me.

I guess it can be a bit of a bad thing, but some kids
aren't going to read unless forced to, so it's better to
be forced to read than never read at all in my opinion.

Besides, a lot of the school books I have to read I end up
really liking! xD

....... So ... It's fine to force kids to read ... with their rights to work as leverage .... riiiiiiiggght. Besides, it's a terribly written drama.

Well, I suppose in that case it's bad. (Poorly Written)
Drama provides nothing for a reader, so it doesn't really
make sense to be forced to read it.

It's mostly cuz it's not about the story itself, but our abilities to analyze it.

Well, people can analyze good literature too,
all making people read bad literature will do is
condition them to be against reading later in life.

Depends on the book, and if reading is your thing...

oh and if you have to do something like:
"now write a paper on how you THINK the main guy did this and how it effected you in 3 pages or more"

yeah, that sucks
