I am unaware of any art prizes FA hosts, as I do not enter any. If you live in the UK there are massive anual art competitions, like the BP portrait award and the Summer exhibition [biggest in world open to submissions from the public from anywhere] which offer prize money and publicity respectively. I have not entered either but I have visited both, they exhibit almost exclusively traditional work though.

As far as I am aware FA does not have a prints selling section.

There are other furry sites out there, including popular ones like Sofurry, but FA is the biggest and I am not registered on other furry sites so cannot fairly review their usefulness.

You can view people's journals from their userpages but I do not think you can browse through journals like art.

You need to make use of the 'watch' function to watch artists and groups who host competitions, that way when they make a journal about it you will be sent a notification to inform you.

Once you are watching people and groups you will read a lot more journals by people who want comissions, host contests, and so forth.

most people here make money selling commissions, and getting paid through paypal, if you sell prints you need some other printing source.

the contests are usually raffle type and yes the rewards are art, i,m nut sure of any momentary prizes.

the site is actually comparatively quite basic with respect to deviant art.

in general you just need to watch people and talk to them like THIS. for example i RP with people and write stories that others have done art for bumped into most of them. (if you want we can add each other on skype i have other furrys in my contacts. could set up a group chat thing so you can meet peoples)

one if the quickest ways to find good artists to watch is to pic a few people at random and go through their "favorites" to see if there's anyhting you like or just use search and sort my 'popularity'


ALSO looking at your art you could just draw more things for a little while, your watcher count is sure to explode especially with art as good as yours, then hold your own contest by announcing it via a journal or an upload

Yeah, compared to DA... FA is really basic and I found everything here is so frustrating, from the uploading system, the browsing, even they can't show the GIF file right. I actually can do a lot with pixel arts: http://emmil.deviantart.com/gallery/221734 but I think it's useless to upload them here since what people can see is just a small white box that need to be clicked 1st to see the real thing.

I wish I could - 3- I don't know much about contests offered by FA

But normally what I see a lot of (if money is the goal) Is artists auctioning off their work/setting up commission sheets(templates)/YCH slots/adoptable characters/etc. and mixing and matching all of them or a few of them to create a new type of contest o. O (Like A YCH slot auction)

I also see artists holding various little contests of their own (like raffles, kiriban, etc.) in order to make their page a bit more popular :o

For big money contests, it might be easier to find elsewhere... But the FA forums should have the answer to that.

The contests I see that artists make are usually to give out free art themselves. Usually it's the big time artists, but I only ever see the contests in journals and submissions. For roleplays I think there is a forum but I'm not really sure, because I'm still pretty new to FA xD

I'd suggest watching all artist profiles you enjoy/get a lot of commissions because those are the ones that usually do the most self contests.

contests/raffles are basically held by posting a journal and most often, asking those that enter to post a journal with a link back to the raffle/contest. Most artists use it as a way to gain more watchers and to spread their abilities through word of mouth.

aside from FA, the only art sites I can think of are Weasyl and auction sites like Thedealersden.com and furbuy.com

FA forum, you meant the black market forum? I've been there but it's for money commission, not contests, right?

Hmmm, I'm not really sure there's an actual venue here for such large mainstream type contests that have such prizes. Most nice contests like that follow a guideline. They're sometimes sponsored by a company or business (DeviantArt holds huge ones occasionally to sponsor events or movies, check them out.) You could look in magazines that are about criteria you work in, contests are advertised when available (don't know of furry magazines, but then again I've never looked.) What MOST contests require is an entry fee. Yep, when you get into the real nice contest circuit, you have to pay to enter. Sometimes a little, $5, sometimes a lot, like $35 per artwork. The bigger the fee, the bigger and better the payout. After all, somebody is handing out money and prizes to the winners, they have to get the prize money somewhere. Not that it's bad, but when you get into big contests there is huge competition. You need to do your research. Look around, read about them, find credibility and if what you do fits their requirements. Getting into contests isn't as easy as make art and submit, especially if you want to go for the bigger rings. I have found plenty of nice contests that were free though, you just have to search. I won a grand in 2011 for a free contest I'd entered, by making an artwork of a character in a novel.

I'm not sure about the changing banners. I do know they're from different users, and when you make a banner to fit the site guidelines (must fit the size, must have one if the two special a characters and the site title) the admins see it and get to look through choices to show. I'm sure if you go to an admin's page and ask them they can direct you to the info.

Lol, contests and awards are much more politics than talents sometimes. I used to win a lot when I was a newbie at DA... I could get 6 years memberships in a year and spotlight features everywhere, but once I have been known a bit in the community, I have never won anymore contests, lol.

XD oops! I never went after DA contests so much, didn't know they did that. Expect politics in professional contests too. Whatever the juror likes best in his/her opinion wins. :P

Yes, and sometimes, judges are just mere friends of the contest holder, not people with enough knowledge of technical skill..

Yeah, it's an unfair circuit but you never know. If you stand out enough you'll get what you came for.
