Things to bring to Further Confusion
13 years ago
Just wanted to talk about convention essentials for a bit. More specifically, I want to suggest some things and see if you think it's smart or not. I don't know what I'm going to do, but at least I'll be prepared
The obvious things like water, clothes, ID and money aren't much to think about. The finer details would be things like:
Protein bars
The main thing I wanted to talk aboot. I like eating. I LOVE eating... but sometimes I don't wanna go spend precious hours running to McDowels for a burger. I only get furcon once a year and I wanna keep nourished with minimal time spent on boring things like walking to non-con things and putting my mouth on delicious thigns. I thought It was a good idea to look at energy bars. Does anyone know a good food bar? And is it a good idea to sort of rely on them for nourishment? Also, a common theme among these protein bars is peanut butter, chocolate and blue berries. Perhaps I should just pack jugs of that stuff instead?
Funny thing, I picked up a pack of this Luna protein while hunting for supplies, but didn't notice it was for women... I don't suppose the nutritional needs of women aren't that much different from men
Vitamin c
Heard of con crud, right? If you know
then I'm sure she can tell you plenty about that. I thought it was a good idea to pick up a bottle of airborne while supply shopping. Was it a good idea? We'll soon see :T
On that note, I also packed a pair of hand sanitizer bottletes (is that a word?).
HDMI cable
Ok, I just want to sound impressive. Usually the fancy hotel we room in has these fancy tvs. These fancy tvs nowadays have HDMI ports. I can probably hook up my laptop to their tvs with a HDMI cable and be a major dork by playing SNES emulators, pony MP4s and stupid Touhou flash movies :D
am I smart yet

FA+

Except possibly make you sick if you take more than one or two a day.
I'm not sure what the active ingredient is in Airborne, but it'd be worth noting if it has a lot of Zinc in it.
I'm personally fond of Cold-Eeze but that has a ton of Zinc. And they taste pretty bad. xD;;
Protein bars sound alright, but I'd still make sure to take the time to get a full meal or two anyhow. Also, just chocolate isn't all that great, even if you're eating it with other stuff. The protein bars I'm familiar with also have a lot of granola and minimal chocolate. I think I'd recommend the actual bars instead of experimenting. Also, I personally don't find them filling. Pack extras I say.
As for the HDMI cable... I bow to your superior intellect. I wish I'd thought of something like that. xD;;
as for the protein bars, i'd say for supplementary reasons? okay, but i'd still try to have a decent breakfast in the very least, with a decent protein content to 'em.. can't go wrong with eggs. but a decent feed is generally a good idea irregardless.
but yeah, simply just eating right is often your best defense against con crud.
One of the highlights of the con for me is going out to eat with my friends at good restaurants. To hell with fast food, this is a special occasion, there are good restaurants nearby. Go get some good food, take your friends and fun along with you. But some bars for a snack to keep you going until it is time to eat is fine and good.
Vitamin C
Bottle of Airborne is good, but you can also have juice to drink instead of soda/water/coffee.
HDMI cable
Brilliant.
Vitiman C: You would be better taking a multi vitiman, just get some "one-a-days" for men.
HDMI: good idea thou, thou the bad part is sometimes the wall mount covers them, just a FYI.
I would suggest that you also bring more basic foods like bread for carbs. Some kinda protein like canned fish, beans if you're a veggie , or a soup with meat broth. And then a fiber, like fruits and vegetable if you like fresh healthy things, a soup with lentils beans or potatoes could also work and double as a protein as well. Ramen noddles?
I say this because , although protein bars are an excellent form of nutrition and energy, they can be tough on the digestive track, and not what I would consider,,, "real food".
Pick out three of your favorite things from these category types, add the food bars. And you will be fully energized and fueled for the con!
Bring vitamin D, sounds silly but this will help you not get sick more then vitamin C.
All vitamin C does is make you pee.
Skip the water, water is free at the con.
