If I remember correctly, there are one or two cases in Germany where HIV was cured via bone marrow transplant. One of those patients was the first person on the planet ever been officially declared cured of HIV infection

Though bone marrow transplants are dangerous and expensive and it would be nice to have a better, more accessible treatment.

Yep thats because the Person with the donnor Bone marrow was one of the few people in the world that had a special protine that makes his T-cells immune to HIV.

But there aren't enough of them to cure everyone.. The only thing is... here in America, pharmaceutical companies don't have any interest in curing diseases like HIV that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars per patient to treat. They don't want to get rid of that constant stream of income. :/

Yep that is the unfortunate truth of things. You fix something, then theirs no money.

Exactly.. which is why ALL of their research is directed at treatments and not cures and not preventative measures. :/ They don't want to know what causes cancer or seizures or MS when they can keep making billions of dollars on drug treatment protocols.

Sometimes I hate this country.

Welll... we both know about the idea of curing anything these days....

But here's to an end of cynicism, bleak outlooks and a cure. =)

As I recall, a few Japanese researchers a several years ago were developing something that killed HIV flat in a petrie dish, but further testing has not been spoken of since.
