Never saw it, though apparently it wasn't that great (storyline wise). I was told the cinematics were good though.

It's dolled up quite nice but please don't think that's reason enough to go see it. xD

I recall watching this. It was pretty, but way to much "Why the fuck are they doing this?" moments.

Why would be the question I'd extend to the entirety of this film xD

Overall, fun to watch, irritating to think about .

There have been studies done about why audience members question the motives of characters, but the answer is plain and simple: The characters are not you, they do not have your brain. If they do something illogical it is because of the ultimate fallible nature of their humanity. The part where the guy starts coaxing the hammerpede to slither onto his arm was because of his interest in reptiles, which was taken out of the movie and never explained due to time constraints. It reminded him very much of a cobra, so he treated it in a similar fashion, not expecting it to have bone-crunching strength. As for the two women running away from the giant rolling ship, it was likely because at that point they were listening to pure instinct instead of rational thinking. If something large is chasing you your first instinct is likely to run as fast as you can, which is base instinct overpowering conductive reasoning. Yes, I have spent some time thinking about this.

Some of those are gimme's of course. But the android essentially killing off the crew? The Security walking into the alien ship "Unarmed" because.. "we're explorers"

The android killing off the crew was explained in later interviews. David was receiving his orders from Weyland, who wanted him to test out the black goo on some of the crew. The goo is a hyper-evolutionary catalyst that progresses an organism through millions of years worth of natural selection in only a few hours. Weyland wanted the effects to be documented in case he wanted to use it on himself to retard his aging. As for the latter thing you said I completely agree, that was an obvious flaw in the script-writing.

Imo, if it has to be explained in an interview cause it wasn't explained well enough in the movie, then that's kind of negative nancy kinda thing.

I figured Weyland was behind it when Vickers confronted David in the hallway and inquired as to what he said. He did say, "Try harder." Once you know its Weyland then it all starts coming together.

As a cerebral moviegoer, I laugh when modern audiences whine when movies ask more questions than they answer. Personally, I loved Prometheus.

I'm not saying it couldn't possibly appeal to any movie goer. I'm saying it didn't appeal to me because it made absolutely no sense. There's a chance it might have made sense with the right research into the movie but that just makes it a bad movie in my eyes. A good movie would be able to explain all of these things within itself without needing explanation outside of the movie. I'm glad you found something to enjoy in it though.

The reason I'm being so anal about them is because they definitely won't be answered in the second or even the third movie. xD The second movie will not have the same writer or creative party so there will most likely be no closure on the questions raised by the first movie.

I wouldn't bet money on that, Ridley Scott has said that the second film will take place on the homeworld of the Engineers and reveal some of the history of their race. The ones in Prometheus were outcasts from their race, a more militant sect that had taken a profound interest in the development of humanity.

Also the alien you saw at the end is called the Deacon, and is the herald for the Xenomorph race that will come into play likely in the third movie where it will tie into the Alien franchise. These movies are not prequels to Alien, Ridley Scott has stated that they only take place in the same universe. He is trying to craft a new story and experience, but the actors kept harping on about how the movie was a prequel to the much beloved Alien. The film was well received by many, but it would have had higher acclaim if the actors hadn't lied to attract publicity.

Okay, time for my stance. I was one of the people who watched it with Fayne last night, and he does raise a lot of good points. I'm going to list reasons why I thought the movie was bad.

1. There were too many themes introduced.
2. The characters experienced little to no development. It was pretty much "This is the crew, and they're on this mission."
3. The crew wasn't even briefed on what the mission was until they reached the destination. Who in their right mind would agree to be put in a 2 year stasis with absolutely no explanation of the mission ahead?

4. It didn't make sense that Fifield was so opposed to everything on the mission. If he didn't want to be there, why was he?
5. This is the big one. Shaw clung to her beliefs after the entire occurrence and still wanted to find out answers. That totally defeats the purpose of belief. When you believe in something, you support the idea that it exists without concrete evidence. If she was so devout in her faith, why did she need proof to begin with? I'm not advocating atheism here; I'm not an atheist. But in terms of the plot, it doesn't make sense that she would continue to hold on her beliefs as strongly as she did yet need more explanation at the same time. It's hypocritical.

In short, there was an excessive amount of questions asked in this movie without even a minute hint at any kind of answers. The plot was everywhere and ended up going nowhere, and it gives the impression that not enough effort was put into it.
