Maybe Biggest Little FurCon in Reno this May would be a better place to start, smaller and more friendly, more of a relaxacon vibe. ;D And a lot closer to home, too, should it wind up being all too much.

AC has been off my list of cons for a few years now - it's too expensive for me to get to and takes too much of an additional chunk out of my work schedule when I'm already attending: FurCon (staff), RainFurrest, Biggest Little FurCon, Rocky Mountain FurCon, CaliFur, VancouFur and Furlandia. We have nearly a dozen furry conventions just on the west coast now that are cheap and convenient for me to get to (FurCon is literally just 4 miles from my house, I could practically walk there!)

Keep in mind Furry isn't all I do, either. I also go to other sci-fi and fantasy cons, renfaires and maker/hobbyist cons and events.

Furry fandom has almost gotten TOO big and TOO diverse to really feel like family anymore. It's not as comfortable as it used to be. 15 years ago when I went to a furry convention, I knew 90% of the people there. Today I scarcely know 10%, and couldn't possibly keep up. =/

Lol, I guess. It's just the closest one for me. I'd be more than willing to attend other cons but.. distance is an issue. Expensive, etc. @__@

Exactly. And now that there's a furry con like LITERALLY every weekend somewhere? Impossible to go to them all no matter how rich you are. =P

That's actually a really good idea. I think I'll be booked for May but it's good to know there's cons around here. Cali is closer than Reno, technically, but Reno is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from my old hometown that I've been meaning to return to.

I can do that. :p

I'm going to try something similar myself--namely scanning and submitting a picture every day.

You should! It's a tough schedule to follow but I feel SO much more productive making something and sharing it by the end of the day.
