Short Story Ideas?

I'm looking to you guys because I'm both totally stumped, and you're all more creative than me anyway.
I'm taking a class entitled "Advanced Fiction Writing" this semester. It's exactly what it sounds like- creative writing. I've taken the intro creative class before with the same professor and thought it was great, though wound up getting very little out of it since my story and description ideas were all awful. Now, I have a short story- 1500 words or less- due in a few days and inspiration has yet to strike me yet again. If any of you guys have ideas, I'd love to hear them, since I'm stumped. The only stipulation is that it has to be realistic fiction. Other than that, as far as I know, there are no limitations.
So, to summarize: Does anyone have an idea for a very short story that could happen in real life?

Perhaps the thoughts of a quacker wanting to fly south with the geese and why he ends up staying (Probably because he finally gets all the hugs he wants*
Mayhaps a fable of sorts....I'm sure there are lots of modern sayings you can work into the end of a story.

A poor, young kid obsessed with B-horror movies of yesteryear begs and pleads for his mother to make him a snarly werewolf costume for halloween. As the big night approaches, there's no sign of his overworked mother having even begun fashioning the costume. Every night the boy pesters her, oblivious to her exhaustion. She arrives late the evening of, frazzled from a long shift with only a cheap, left over dog costume purchased from the local 5 & Dime. The boy can't even tell the breed let alone if it's a costume for a boy or girl. Dejected, he heads out trick-or-treating only to be ridiculed by the other kids and even snubbed by his neighbors who aren't quite sure what to make of him. He returns home to find his mother gone, working another shift. She's left a note explaining they needed more money and she hopes he has a good time. The boy slowly realizes how hard she works and what a brat he's been unable to even enjoy the present his mother worked so hard on.

Slacker guy wakes up late for a job interview. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Eventually he arrives to find out he's a day early. Realizes he's got a second chance to get his shit together.

And that's all I got offhand. :X
My short tips for writing a short story without any inspiration is to;
1. Find a theme for the story.
2. Decide what kind of setting you want, it could be all from comedic to scary to romantic or even black comedy.
3. Make the main character relatable so the reader care about them. Think about typical human traits, like thinking you're ugly and fat or unsuccessful, worrying, working hard etc. People relate easier when they feel the character is like them.
4. Try to make references to current events or historical.
5. The story should have a point.
