Embarresment to Boy Scouts all over the world
13 years ago
Sent this to the Boy Scouts of America. Dunno if they'll read it, but maybe it will add one to the pressure.

Dear Boy Scouts of America
It was on the Dutch national news today that in many parts of the Boy Scouts of America organization, gays are not allowed to become a member. I myself have been a Boy Scout here in the Netherlands for 10 years. I used to be proud of that. But now I am embarrassed to tell any of my American friends.
I have even been an adult volunteer for a while, as a leader of the youth group. In that role we have a profound effect and on, *responsibility* for the upbringing of these children. What do you want to teach them? Are you not now teaching intolerance and disrespect? That goes against the core values of the Boy Scouts that I have grown up to be proud of!
But now I am embarrassed to call myself a Boy Scout.
Come to your senses. This is the 21st century. Discrimination against Gays is a harmful, even to your youth members you aim to protect, as it will prohibit them to become responsible and ethical members of society. It is not of this time. Do something about it.
Regards,

Maybe it is different in the US, but in the NL we have a scout law, that we say at the beginning of every meeting.
Translated:
A scout goes out with others to discover the world around him and make it more livable.
A scout is honest, loyal and persistent, is thrifty and sober and takes good care of nature.
A scout respects himself and others.
*shakes head* To me, those words actually mean something... It's... bizarre to think that either there is no equivalent morale in America, or that the words are apparently meaningless there.
On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country
To help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout law.
...that was it.
Translated:
I promise to do my best [optional: with Gods help] to be a good scout
To help everyone whenever I can
and to live by the scout law.
You can count on me.
It refers to the scout law, which is what I quoted earlier, and what we recited every meeting. When you just quoted sounds like the promise, and also refers to a law.
So my question is: What is the Girl Scout law?
