Oooh, that sounds nice! Or they could post their reviews in their own journals and you could link to them and just show the overall score they gave

I like the idea of averaging the scores.

When I see that on an online store or a site like trip advisor, I just take the average. If you got one bad review and one good review then whatever it is is probably average

The issue is however not just upon the leaf, but the brand as well. But a solution does need to be found. And the possibility of getting an average score is a good one. Metonymy, seems to have cracked it.

I'd say post them all, unedited and you can link to the other reviews of the same brand/same variety in the comments. Perhaps mark the username reviewing the particular brand in the review's title to immediately distinguish them.

I'm thinking it may be too much trouble or too confusing to try to retroactively combine comments under a single review or to average the score (like, is Twinings Earl Gray gets a 10 but Walmart Earl Gray gets a 5, is it really fair to penalise the entire flavor?).

Or you could have like a Pros and Cons or something?

Averaging scores sounds nice since obviously everyone will have a different opinion of the tea, especially based on steep times or water temp, etc.

Everyone is different and has different tastes of methods of brewing, so an average is a nice balance.

I rather like the idea of scoring. Kind of like a buyer feedback rating. Or brewers feedback, in this case.

Some one's got to be the devils advocate so go for it. Everybody will decide if its something they like for themselves regardless of the review and tastes vary so widely. Its not always about the tea either as water qality at any given location can cause tea to taste good or bad. So you have a right celtic knot of an issue there. Get a scoring system up out of 10 or average the yays and the nays. Either will work. *hugs*

I think it'd be a good idea to figure out more from both sides then decide if the review is : a bad batch, a simple difference in tastes, or there's something legitmately not appealing about the tea. Then formulate a new review listing pros and cons as others have suggested- if it's a difference of tastes that causes the problem the review can state things like: for those of you who like spicy things, or: for those of you partial to jasmine tea. My guess is the clashing reviews are mostly based off a difference in taste or will be. I know jasmine tea for instance is hard for a lot of my friends to enjoy for some reason.
