Weasyl and Me. (Long story short.. FA = Primary)

General
I went to Weasyl to claim my username just now to make sure noone did the imposter thing. It was the ONLY site I had open. Five minutes later I go back to FurAffinity and find some words highlighted and showing coupons. I removed the coupon addon, closed Firefox and had it cleared. Went back to Weasyl and got the addon back. I removed it again and skipped Weasyl and it's no longer coming back. So, I was already skeptical about using the site, but now, Fuck it.
I refuse to support a site that throws software that's borderline malware on my machine without asking.
I'll have an account there, it is me, but if this doesn't change, I will not be using it, even as a secondary.
That just adds to the growing lists of strikes against that site for me.
Strike 1: Pitched as a furry site to get interest and funding, then abruptly given a course change after reciving startup money.
Strike 2: Several folks who are mods that are notoriously bad at handling themselves on this site when they stayed here.
Strike 3: Malware.
Weasyl, you are out!

First, I was at the Anthrocon pitch for it and it was DEFINITELY pitched as a for furs site originally. Everyone I was with came away with the same message, so even if it wasn't intentional, it was aimed that way. for it, it was pitched as a furry site.
Second. The issue has repeated itself. I installed a fresh VM with XP and loaded the site in Firefox 18.0.2, and still got that in the vm. Maybe my DNS is compromised, but I'm pretty sure it isn't as it uses google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as well as the fact it ONLY happened with this site. I love your assumptions that I'm a moron with computers. This is literally the first time I've gotten anything on this rig in a year, and my other ring is 6+ year malware free. I was rid of it in a few minutes (not by just disabling it,) On relaunch I did not have it, went to the site again and ended up with the same thing.
As a suggestion, however, if you are using crome or firefox, i would recommend "adblock plus." it has the advantage of disabling a good many ad-centric scripts that tend to install unwanted extensions to your internet browser. there's also "no script" as well but that one sometimes interferes with the functioning of some sites so it's up to you to decide if it's for you.
That being said, maybe consider contacting the weasyl staff. they might be able to help you get to the bottom of this and if there is something that's trying to hijack their site they probably want to know about it so that they can prevent it from happening again.
