Weasyl Open Beta
If you don't know, Weasyl went into open beta a few days ago, meaning you don't need an invite anymore!
I'm also an Admin/Director there, draw stuff for them, and perform various forms of black magic.

FA+

The analogy is that FA is a security mishap waiting to happen. Security is reactive, and not proactive. Have you SEEN the note leak from like, 2008?
And let's be honest, most users on a site aren't going to interact with the admins much, if at all. So Weasyl might have a better staff, but its website is nothing special where it works, so that's not going to do much for it.
>I'm not referring to any bugs in particular
Sounds like you're just disagreeing to cause trouble.
1. There is absolutely no reason in this day and age to separate your tags by space. It's awful. It's clunky. It's awkward for me to use. For that matter, the entire image uploading process is clunkier than FA's, and that's saying a lot. That's certainly a point against it when you're trying to draw people to it away from FA.
2. The story uploader is terrible. Why do I have to hit New to paste in the text I want? Why isn't it WYSIWYG? Why do I need to save it before I can upload it? Why do I have to upload an entirely new, separate file just to edit it? Why can't I even do that because it won't accept anything? It's unusable.
3. While neat, the sliding-around thing is awkward. It doesn't really look good because the text gets cut up and cut off. If the text is just right so that nothing gets pushed to the next line, then it looks nice. But sometimes it gets pushed all the way out of the frame and you can't even read it. Here's a picture of this happening:

Here's a picture where it looks fine:

My suggestion is that it cut off any text or names that are too long and replace them with ellipses, or, less optimally, just let it overflow off to the right.
4. I've heard bad things about the collection feature, but that seems to have been addressed in the latest newspost. By the way, the newsposts are too far down on the screen. If I hadn't scrolled down looking for things that had bothered me when I was using it, I never would have found it.
5. Too much empty space. Most of the space on the userpage (mine, at least) is simply going to waste. FA pages are fairly compact; they never feel empty, nor do I feel like I'm scrolling down pointlessly just to reach things that are placed too far away.
I would like to take a moment to note that on some artists' page Weasyl looks much better. I particularly like the ability to put a banner on top of the page, like here: https://www.weasyl.com/profile/octary . It makes the page a lot more professional, personalized, and engaging. So that's something.
6. No API for streaming. Why? It's not hard. You shouldn't be forcing your users to update that all the time. Currently many streams are advertised when in fact they are down because nobody bothered to change it.
These are just the ones that come to mind immediately. Weasyl has a lot of potential and I would really hate to see that go down the drain because they aggressively railroad themselves into failure.
...or act like complete idiots in public: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/...../#cid:31836765
I also just wanna say that trying to talk about the atrocity of a site on the very same site seems ironic to me, but whatev.
And has the admin done anything yet to prove themselves particularly competant? I'm not saying Weasyl's staff is incompetant, but it's really easy to say "The site is administered so much better!" when the site has not been around long enough to have any major or even minor crises.
Basically, I want to know that the reasons people are going to Weasyl is because it's full of good artist who don't post elsewhere, or because it has compelling features that allow users to control their experiences in ways that other sites don't, such as analytics to allow artists to compare how popular their art is, or organization tools like pools and folders, or a tagging system that involves a blacklist so you don't have to see things you don't want. Weasyl seems to be doing pretty well on that front from what Fiz says, with a lot of good things that aren't on FA.
I don't care about people's sour grapes, earned or not, until Weasyl is tested sufficently to prove they ARE better written and moderated than a given other site.
We also have a dedicated tech team devoted to updating our site regularly and a very responsive staff who's willing to listen to suggestions on how to improve the site.
