Weasyl thingie.
So I got one of those Weasyl thingies just cuz they opened it up to everyone. I'm not going anywhere -- I've established myself here and I'm sticking around. I just wanted to see what they're doing differently and if they're making it worth anyone's while to jump ship.
The one thing I want fixed on Fur Affinity is addressed on Weasyl, but it's handled awfully: art submissions that you didn't draw.
FA doesn't restrict people from uploading stuff that they didn't draw, so the site is flooded with duplicates: the artist submits a picture they drew, but so does the person that commissioned it and/or the person who owns the character. Weasyl attempts to fix this by making collections -- basically they allow the artist to link other Weasyl users if they're in the picture so that commissioners don't feel the need to upload.
But sorry...if the artist doesn't do it, the other users can't link their name to the picture. Instead, they have to send them a note and poke them to do it if they want to have that picture added to their collection. How awkward and inconvenient.
So nice attempt at addressing the issue, but...not far enough.
Plus there's nothing really going on there, so I'm not gonna branch out.

FA+

1) The more sites I'm invited to join, the slower I am at registering for new ones.
2) The more sites I register on, the more retarded I get.
As for the commissioner posting pics they commissioned, I feel it's in their right to post pics they purchased even if they didn't draw it, much like how a person can drive a car they payed for but didn't make.
Duplicates are annoying but, well there are a lot of Honda's out there. XD
If you start enjoying your stay at Weasyl then let me know, I might jump cliff-err.... I mean jump ships too. >_<

The ultimate way to check for duplicates is to really /really/ check for duplicates by comparing byte-for-byte the entire image against the entire database of art to see if there's a match. Even then, if one person uploads it in one format and another in a different format, the file type check sums won't match and the so bytes won't match.
Totally not worth the effort. That's why no one does it. Besides, humans are better at spotting similarities in images than computers are.
The only issue I see here is that some people don't give obvious credit to an artist who drew their character, but most people are pretty good about doing so.
