Report: I continue to be amazed as to just how helpful the people at this gym are. Some of them are professional level bodybuilders or MMA fighters (its an MMA gym) and yet they're more than happy to give good advice to a relative novice like myself if you just ask them!
I'm not so much of a novice anymore, I've been at this for well over two months now. Starting to see some real improvement, especially in the arms and chest area. I'm trying to achieve a balance between bulking and toning that will help me burn off this excess fat without creating loose or droopy skin parts.
I've been combining the workout with better food choices. I've, regrettably, had to cut back on the bread, pastas and potatoes I love to eat. I've also cut out sodas almost completely and stick to Vitamin Water for drinks, when I'm not drinking my whey protein shakes. I also take multivitamin and green tea for dietary supplements. I feel great, I haven't felt this good since I was in high school -- but I do miss eating the good foods. =| Oh well, I'm allowed to cheat on my diet one day per week.
Except for FWA. The diet is off for FWA, and you bet I'm pigging out on all the great mediterranean food they have in downtown Atlanta.

Ooo, side note: for that starchy/potato/pasta fix, consider sticking some cauliflower in a blender to make chunks of even 'rice grain' sized pieces. Cooks fast, tastes good, and functionally equivalent to potato chunks or rice grains in recipies.
I know that's probably tough, giving up the sweet drinks. I was that way with Mountain Dew (thus why so many of my commissions involve Dew). But nowadays, I drink black coffee and unsweetened teas, and I think I've really gotten used to it. Once in a while at a gaming session I'll sneak a Dew, and the hyper-sweetness is really overwhelming to me now. Can really only manage one, maybe 2 tops, where I used to have 4 or 5 over the course of the day. Yeesh, glad those days are gone. >.>
I've taken to drinking vitamin waters as my drink of choice, along with green tea.
I really need to get back on my workout schedule, too. My diet's pretty well tamed, now I just need to exercise again to lose those last 10, and I'm happy. :)
