Seriously, WTF Hollywood?

A while back, I watched The Hobbit in the theaters with my sister. That isn't actually what this journal is about, but rather the movie previews that we saw before it started.
Now, I noticed something strange about these movie trailers, which you might notice as well when you see them.
First, have a look at "After Earth". It's a movie about people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth;

Next, we have "Oblivion". It's a movie about people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e00HL1RHZ0Q
Coincidence, you say? Now we have "The Host". It's a movie about people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIQTDuCSEp4
I saw all 3 of those trailers right before the SAME MOVIE, almost one after the other. But just wait --- it gets worse...
Next, we= have "World War Z". It's a movie about people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hGI_IBFwoY
Now, here we have "The Philosophers". It's a movie about people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_-8Ys_40lU
F***ing really? Oh, but there's more.
Now we have something completely different. This one is called "Alienate". It's a movie about people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth;

Oh look, something original --- "The End of the World"! It's a movie about people struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth;

Oh, goodie --- something different! Lot's of originality!
Seriously, WTF Hollywood?

FA+

No competitiveness, no regard for originality, no regard for customers, wasting a ton of money on make-work projects with no real regard for profits, and a few people running the whole show who all hobnob together and think alike.
The only thing missing so far are colossal fraud and embezzlement scandals, mass-firings, abandonment of talent, and shipping all the jobs overseas.
It's sad to watch this stuff happen, that's for sure.
And the trailer I saw for WWZ makes me very, very unhappy.
This Is The End looks dumb.
Aside from that, I love post-apoc, so I'm happy.
Remember when "Twister" and "Tornado" hit the theaters at about the same time? A year earlier, there was "Night of the Twisters"
How about "Volcano: The Coast is Toast" and "Dante's Peak", both in 1997?
In the 1970s, there was "Airport", "Airport 1975", "Airport '77", "The Concorde ... Airport '79", "Airplane!", "Airplane II: The Sequel", "SST: Death Flight", "Terror in the Skies", "Skyjacked", and "Murder On Flight 502".
It happened again in 2005, with "Red Eye" and "Flightplan". "Flight 93", "United 93" and "United 300" were all released in 2006.
1998 gave us both "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact".
2004 and 2005 brought us "Flight of the Phoenix" and "Sahara", which both follow the "escape from the desert by MacGuyvering a vehicle from an airplane wreck" meme.
Or maybe you like movies about cold climates? 2004 gave us both "Absolute Zero" and "Post Impact", and 2 years later there was "The Day After Tomorrow". Seriously, two year later --- they KNEW BETTER, and they did it anyway.
I've saved the worst offense for last. Remember the Vietnam War Movie meme in the 1980s?
1985-90 alone gave us "In Love and War", "Platoon", "Platoon Leader", "Full Metal Jacket", "A Mission to Kill", "Strike Commando", "Vietnam War Story II", "Bullet in the Head ", "Eye of the Eagle 2", "Good Morning, Vietnam", "The Hanoi Hilton", "1969", "Gardens of Stone", "Casualties of War", "Combat Shock", "Born on the Fourth of July", "Riverbend", "The Siege of Firebase Gloria", "Love & Death in Saigon", "Off Limits", "Behind Enemy Lines", "In Country", "Air America", "Final Reprisal", "Missing in Action 2", "Missing in Action 3", "Distant Thunder", and "Hamburger Hill".
That's 29 different Vietnam War films (assuming I counted them all correctly) in the span of only 5 years --- an average of almost 6-per-year. Just for fun, look-up the plots of all these Vietnam War movies, and try to see how many you can find that have unique stories AND were good movies.
Also, note that I've only included 2 genres; war and disaster movies.
Who can forget (I did to clear out the junk drawer) the disaster flicks. Nealy all I didn't go see just because the looked bad. The Airports only the original the rest ... feh.Only 2 nam movies were woth it the rest was .....
but I get it. *shakes head*
