30-Day Drawing Challenge (Need your help~)
I want to do a 30-Day drawing challenge type thing, since I've been slacking on my art and need to kick my butt in gear. I'll probably start doing the challenge on the 1st for the sake of organization.
What I need you guys to do is suggest animals. Suggest as many as you want, whatever species you want. Suggest animals you think would be a challenge, unique, and/or suggest common animals! Doesn't matter to me, I'll be choosing randomly to give myself the best range.
I'm going to need 30 animals in total to draw. I'll list them in a journal when I start the challenge. :3

Cassowary/Emus - any of the ratites have a strange shape thats really fun to balance because it works so perfectly
Sage Grouse/turkeys/prarie chicken/peacocks - any galliform that struts is a fantastic subject
Cockatoos - very good for learning feathers in expression. plenty of ref vids of pets on youtube. Other parrots like macaws are just amazing to learn because of their strange face shape. Most people never draw their beaks right.
Fancy pigeons and chicken breeds - incredible diversity. Worth a hunt and peck~
Anhingas/Snakebirds - crazy neck, cool face, lots of goof refs of their wings
Vultures - any sort. I love watching videos of scavengings/tussling griffon vultures and maribou storksin africa, absolutely amazing weight and movement. American Caracaras are also amazing.
The Four Hyenas - it saddens me when someone draws a brown or striped hyena on a spotted hyena base, or neglects to realize that an aardwolf is fox sized, nothing like a real wolf or the other hyenas. Comparison studies for the hyenas would be amazing.
Jaguarundi and Fossa - incredible body forms. Not a ton of good ref pics out there, but zoo videos are great.
Snow Leopard and Clouded Leopard faces - Very distinct forms, most people just draw basic cat faces and it doesnt capture their elegance quite the same.
Coati, Spotted Civet, Palm civet, Linsang, Tayra, Genet, Bintourong, Sable, Marten, Cacomistle - all really fun animals to google with similar long body plans. Its like a pile of exotic ferrets and friends.
Dhole/Asian Wild Dog - these guys are viscous and disembowel their prey alive while running them down. Great characterization potential from something so deceivingly cute!
Maned Wolf/Kalak - not totally unique, but because their legs are so long, their have a unique (among canids) ambling gait, cannot sit, and lay down a specific way. They also have amazing body language with each other that you can see in vids on youtube. Try getting a handle on how different their move compared to other dogs.
Sighthounds - Artists like me just draw lanky scrawny things as a style, but sighthounds are actually hella thin. Trying to accurately capture their anatomy is a lot harder than it seems.
Leopard seals - I think they have an incredible face and are very handsome compared to other seals/walrus/etc.
Snapping Turtles or giant tortoises - Nice shells, long necks and good face shapes. I like soft shell turtle faces too.
Gliding lizards, basilisks, frilled dragons, or even iguanas/anoles - all the lizards with modified skin are really fun. Monitor lizards are great too, try the very serpentine build of the australian perentie!
I see you already got the alligator and the gharial, so how about the alligator gar? haha. Or long nosed gar. They have beautiful sleek bodies with their dorsal and anal fin set far back to act like one giant propelling tail for ambushing prey instantly. They are also tough fish with unique "ganoid" scales. They can also breathe air. You could literally throw one in the middle of a parking lot for an hour and return it to the water and it would be just fine.
Shark rays, shovelnose rays, manta rays, skates, etc. All these underwater gliders are beautiful and elegant.
Arowanas, coelacanths, frilled shark, lungfish, Eeltailed catfish, pelican eels, carpetsharks, lizardfish, leafy seadragons, poacherfish, sturgeon, koi, and flying fish are all other interesting subjects.
Beetles! There are like half a million species of them. Try to pick out an iconic few and learn some new colors and patterns.
Best of luck!
Thanks! <3
