Raging Lady Boners - Post-Sony Meeting
Hey dearies!
What did you guys think of the whole event?
I only conclude saying I wouldn't mind investing in a fantastic PC gaming rig later this year. I find the third-party tech shown interesting but disappointed at the lack of actual vidyagames and some of the business deals made...
However... Deep Down, holy fff-- it might be pre-rendered but I hope it's not...
Uuughhh orgasmic... I almost wanted to imagine Susumu Hirasawa's music playing.
I'm just glad we're moving on - this generation served us well!
I will try to do these one by one as fast as I can. I haven't forgotten. Sorry for the delay.

Deep Down, looks to be a NexGen MH type game from Capcom. If it is, then I'm sold!
They should be trying to outdo this console: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouya
It is like an EeePC, mediocre on release, but terrible a week after its done.
Unreal Engine 4 was shown running on PCs out currently 8 months ago.
If you break down the PS4, it'll be able to play games at 1080p at high settings.
By high settings, i mean:
Full resolution textures
Antialiasing
Anistropic filtering
Long draw distances
Tesselation
high quality physics effects
But at the end of the day, it's an AMD Jaguar APU with 4 "modules" and an ATI 7xxx series GPU with a unified 8gb of GDDR5 memory.
Is it a huge improvement over the current generation? Sure.
But it fails to impress when i've got a big steam library, a potent HTPC attached to a 55" LCD and an Xbox controller hooked in for Big Picture Mode on Steam.
I think this generation will be swept by the SteamBox and casual mobile gaming(Android / iOS)

Then, there's the fact that the overall graphical improvement isn't going to be as striking as in the last two generational shifts, and the pressure from tablets and smartphones.
So yeah, I don't think things are looking particularly up for Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo.
But i agree with all of your points
1. Student budget from college life in general (I'm lucky enough to even be able to afford the upcoming few games I've made pre-orders on, let alone a brand new console)
2. Still have games from even previous gen-consoles (mostly PS2) that I'm wanting to finish up on at some point. Doesn't help that I don't have as much time for gaming as I used to either (college, work, etc.).
That said though, I'll keep an eye out for further news about the upcoming consoles and games...see which ones look the most promising. Watch Dogs and Deep Down are looking pretty good, in particular.
