It's my room

Just got an email from a guy who doesn't like the way I run my live shows. He says I'm rude and my prices are too high and I should be drawing for free to entertain my viewers. I think everybody knows what my response would be. YOU DON'T LIKE MY ROOM? STAY OUT.

She may or may not have been rude - Again, I wasn't there - but put yourself in her shoes. Any somewhat popular artist on here will likely get constant badgerings for free art on a weekly basis. You may have triggered a reaction out of her when she saw the word "free".
whether you said free art or not (as well as her art being expensive), I suggest you be careful with how you word these things. While what you said may sound innocent and just trying to be helpful, from the artist's prespective, it'll come off as you trying to get 'free art from her' or lowering the prices for your benefit. The best you can do when you see someone having trouble getting more people is either suggest them to advertise harder or do special limited time type of commissions. Being generally supportive and getting the word out also helps.
An artist will always charge to what they feel they're worth, and will not lower it for anyone unless THEY feel they need to.
Try not to take this outburst from her too personally and just take it as more of a life lesson.
Judging from the recent post here, it doesn't seem like he was being those typical 'YOU TOO EXPENSIVE. LOWER IT PLZKTHX' commissioners. I think he was suggesting ways to help get you more customers and just used poor wording on his part.
