W. W. "Mo" Cleland, inventor of the eponymous "Cleland's reagent" - a chemical compound used across the globe daily, a compound he refused to patent for monetary gain, for the betterment of the scientific community - died yesterday following complications to a fall.
Mo pioneered the field of enzyme kinetics not only by creating "Cleland diagrams" but was unparalleled in his skill and insight into utilizing and popularizing kinetic-isotope effects to study enzyme mechanisms.
