Friends

Lately I've been wondering...
What exactly IS a friend? What do they do? How do you classify someone as your friend?
What do -you- think a friend means? Being a friend? Having someone as a friend, what do you expect of them?
tell me what you think
I try not to ask these questions because my trust issues make me confused about what it means to be friends with someone LOL
If you can forgive someone you thought was a friend, they're still your friend (a cheesy thing I learned from Shrek "Thats what friends do, they forgive eachother.." LOL)
So like, I mostly have your back, you're more of an aquaintence to me just because we dont talk much Px but because you're friends with carcar, I trust his judgement and therefore mostly trust you xD
One sorta has to give the benifit of the doubt most of the time or you end up with no friends. You cant have high standards either and nor can you treat people like crap
Buuuut in all seriousness. To me a friend is someone that actually likes to interact with you. You know each other reasonably well and they'll at least seek you out to hang out with at least once in a while.
The only thing I would expect of a friend is for them to keep a promise. If they say they're going to do something, say like... meet you at the mall at 3 o'clock, then they should be doing that unless something serious comes up.
-someone understanding and supportive -> Understanding yes, supportive? No. Not always, not when it gets obvious your friend is doing a huge mistake in his life. As a friend (I mean true friend, not the "facebook" definition of it), he's supposed to trust you so it's your duty to tell him what you truly think about it, even if it hurts sometime.
While accurate, the degree to which both of those attributes are givin, holds a lot of water. Your best friends hold you in higher esteem, and are closer to you personally. People you can respect and receive respect from. People you can share your innermost secrets and feelings with, and trust that things can be held in confidentiality. The same should go vice-versa as well.
And a friendship really takes time to be forged! I could gather up 10 people, tell them my problems, pros, cons and then have them tell me theirs! But that's not friendship!
Now, what I mean with the term? Online, it's easier to open up! Especially in a fandom with so much need of understanding! I might sound nasty saying this, but I don't think of many of those I chat with as friends! There's a difference with hanging out with people and being friends with them! Unlike in real life, online friendships are made quite fast! And frankly, that's wrong! It's almost as if the word 'friend' has no value when some people say it all the time!
