A big part of what I do at work is event mangagement. I plan and execute my company's convention & trade show appearances.
It's something I kinda just fell into but I do have a degree in theatre tech that certainly helped. A lot of it comes from experience. I would imagine your school has a student events team that you could probably join. Also, I would suggest volunteering at any conventions that you can - that will give you a lot of hands on experience!
I have 400 volunteer hours working events. 2 Years as an Audio Technician and a shit ton of theatre experience. I just have no idea how to go about getting a job in a field that would get me to event mangement.
Well, it sounds like you're off to a great start then!
Other skills that can be useful are graphic design and accounting - one of the hardest things related to event management can be keeping to a detailed budget!
There are a few companies out there that specialize in running events but you'll have to do some looking around online for them.
Also, hotels, convention centers, etc. are good places to look at as well.
There are also positions to be found in companies like advertising/marketing agencies as well. If you look at the event listings for any hotel or convention center you'll see that there is a trade show or marketing event for pretty much every industry out there. From automobile companies to medical supplies to outdoor/sporting goods to games and technology - companies from all of these areas attend trade shows annually. Some even go to several a year.
Do some looking around for "event organizer" or "event planning" or "event management" positions but be sure to cast your net about as broadly as possible.
