Nah, i think that Artist Beware are for importan things. While they don't run away with my money...

Anything that takes more than a year to deliver no matter the amount is important enough. Don't let shit like that be gotten away with.

wow o.o could always take it to paypal and get your money back, maybe get said artist shut down from using paypal as well while you're at it.

Not really... Paypal only gives you 45 days to work thru that kind of stuff.

Had to deal with this with one of my pieces.

The worst part was all the excuses the artist came up with.

"I lost my job i'm so stressed I can't art! Btw I'm opening commissions for 10 slots!"

"I got a new job and they're assholes i'm so stressed I can't art! btw 10 more slots"

etc etc

had to regularly comment on their page and remind them about the piece and I finally got it a full year later

I really dont like to use artist beware, only in extreme situations like scam or artist refusing to do refunds...

Havent passed a year yet and I still can get in touch with the artist without problem. So i don't think he desseve it.

I know in some cases, it's freebie stuff, but I have a few paid pieces that I'm STILL waiting on and keep seeing the artists taking on more work instead of just getting on with stuff I paid for months back...

Well i don't bother at all on free stuff, i sen a note or two once a while but really its not important to me. I mean, if you get it free you cant complain.

Lot of people owe me free stuff but since i didn't paid, its on their will do it.

Oh yea, I know... I wasn't saying I complain about the freebies or so, but there are some paid commission pieces I've been waiting a long time for that I continue to see people taking on more and more work when they have a lot to finish up first.

I would carefully pick out who you want to commission first to see if they can get things done on time, although not everyone can manage to get stuff done on time and may be a little late with some exceptions which can be made if you are 'OK' with it. But if it's taking more than a year to complete I wouldn't bother with commissioning them again, unless of course it's a year long sequence of commissions which may take a year to complete, but even then... :p.

Oh yes, the problem is when they were really active deliverying comissions and suddenly that changes.

The current excuse is that doesnt have time for big comissions so is doing only sketches... the problem is that because my comission is big she doesnt start it... but coul be doing the sketch at least using her same words, but no...

Myeah, I commissioned someone start october for 2 pieces
last month he finished 1, now he's busy with the other but is already saying he will almost be taking commissions as well

Yeah, now for the other, though I'm a bit concerned as it's a ref sheet for a new character and him saying he's almost ready to open new commissions gives me the feeling he's going to rush things

I commissioned an artist who kept doing this not too long ago. Wound up getting a refund. A shame, since I would've liked the picture instead, but oh well. I'm still friends with them at least. Sorry to hear about your trouble, but I know how it goes!
