Because I Try To Be A Good Kitten and Not A Hypocrite

Well, it looks like the AUP has been rewritten, but I'm not sure if any "gray areas" have been "cleared" up. In fact, given the extreme reactions by some, it looks like there is room for even more "gray".
Its not like I didn't understand it from the beginning though, and since its been said over and over recently by staff that generator content is generator content, no matter how you slice (or should I say render) it, its time for this submission to (without remorse and with no ill feelings) move from its once tentative home to a place better suited for it... Photobucket.
Here, as promised, for reference sake, is an archive of the comments during its stay here on FA...

The Horned Sith Beckons
Done with Apophysis, another (fractal) generator that is looked over when it comes to FA's policy on such.
This took me all of 30 seconds to set up and 18:16:37.15 to render.
Yeah, eighteen hours, sixteen minutes, and thirty-seven point fifteen seconds!!!
The amazing thing as far as I'm concerned is how this application runs so smoothly in the background, so you can use your computer to even do things like explore on SL while it does all the work.
Why FA allows these to be hosted on its servers, I'll never know, but since they do here they are.
---
Oh, and if you want to give it a try, visit http://www.apophysis.org/ and download the small application, tweak away at the settings as much as you like (obsessives be warned, you could spend hours doing this), set the render settings really high just don't forget FA doesn't allow file sizes larger than 10 megs , tell it to render, and load what it creates not you to FA, and take all the credit for your most recent masterpiece.

the reaosn it took so long
A) quality
B)zoom(trust me on that)
C)oversample
D)size
and F) your comp

AnonymousFurry ( No Subject ) Posted: 23 days ago
Exactly...
Most importantly though, it took all of 30 seconds of effort on my part.
I deliberately toggled as much of the settings as I could to make it take longer and render the file size bigger... but thanks for the un-needed help, Captain Obvious.

Heh, just found about this prog from another fur!
Fractals are fun, and technically, I think they ARE furry- after all, don't fractals occur in nature?
Don't even get me started with the chaos theory :P
---
AnonymousFurry ( No Subject ) Posted: 23 days ago
It doesn't matter whether you consider an asteroid or a cancer cell (both occur in nature) furry or not. This was created by a fractal generator, and its against FA's AUP to load images that where created using a generators, or submissions that contain lacking user created content, such as this submission.
Enjoy your FA, nature boy.
PS: There's a huge reason why I didn't try to get you started on chaos theory. :P

Fractals are, actually, user created content. Otherwise anything created in paint (ugh) or photoshop would be invalid, since they are generators all the same. The difference is that a fractal uses a mathematical algorithm input to derive pixel relations, and photoshop uses... the same thing. But that's being literalistic. Realistically, a fractal program is the brush and canvas - the camera and film. It is no less a work created by the user. The camera does not take pictures, a person takes pictures with a camera to help. A painter uses a brush.
I'm bored, and this is my input. :) It was created on an electrical network of synapse and generated through a digital render which created text.
It's Full Of Stars, Dave.

Yes yes I know... And if I use the same logic as you... I get to take a picture of or paint a mountian or a valley and get to claim credit for creating the mountian or valley.
Oh, how I wish I could think like you, I could pretend I'm a self righteous demi-god too.
Alas, I think differently.
Perhaps in this case, in the name of being kind to strangers, we can agree to disagree.
LOL
PS: As I mention in previous submissions that where created by generators, that would otherwise be against the FA AUP to upload to the site. The matter is under re-evaluation. I guess its not as clear cut as you would like to think it is.

Hm, Apo is nothing like UltraFractal's method of generation... oh god, why have I been doing it the hard way? :P
---
AnonymousFurry ( No Subject ) Posted: 3 weeks ago
I would have to agree with you wholeheartedly on that point.
There's a big difference between free and $100.
---
EliahPhos ( No Subject ) Posted: 3 weeks ago
I was merely stating an existential and micro-macro view of the topic of whether or not it is a creation of the person using the program.
Apo seems to take an rng seed and permeate it without requirement of input. However, these 'flame fractals' are not the whole of fractals, and alot of work goes into a good fractal.
As is said, "A statue is what is stone, not created by man. But a stone does not carve itself."
Self-perpetuating generators are, at least, the work of those who programmed and conceived it, even if there needs no user for greater input.
As regarding whatever issue there may be about such things not being apart of what FA should be allowing as uploads - it's art, people enjoy it. Take it away, and photography and any digital music would fall into the same category and should be removed as well.
As for "And if I use the same logic as you... I get to take a picture of or paint a mountian or a valley and get to claim credit for creating the mountian or valley." ... there was once a drawing, and in it was a pipe, and below that it said "This is not a pipe." Indeed, it is not a pipe. But it is no less of a pipe than the image of a pipe.

Existential - quasi-logic - and pretend micro-macro view (being that there is no way even if your a savant autistic to either form opinions and relay those of which, such as if you where an amoeba or a planet) aside...
Its quit simple, FA can choose to host what ever they want, and choose not to host what ever they don't want. Its really just as totalitarian as that, when it comes to someone else paying the lions share of what it takes to serve up what FA does, and that's not to mention the massive amounts of time and effort they personally put into it. They get to pick. Its called special interest buddy, and to say that if they chose not to host computer created (not user created) content, it would mean that they would have to choose not to host what they want to, then your really as whacked out as you sounded just then, praddling things off like your some PHD philosopher turned QUACK.
---
To put it in terms that you once understood... like when you where 5...
Its their toy, not yours. If you want to play with it, you have to play with it on their terms.
ITS NOT YOURS TO DO WITH WHAT YOU PLEASE IF IT FALLS OUT OF THE SCOPE OF WHAT THEY LET YOU BORROW THEIR TOY FOR.
If you dont like the house rules... find another house to play in, or GET YOUR OWN.
(Its not like there are a hundred other options on the internets were you can manage your own content and preach what ever off logic you wish, FOR FREE. There exist many freeware applications to help you generate and manage a web site, and there are many places that will host what ever you want to upload.)
You dont have to use FA, and its RUDE to insist on using FA outside the house rules that you agreed to, just because you have differing opinions about their policy.
Its simply just bad manners to ask to use someone elses things, or for them to allow you to play with them, but to use them in such a manner that they specifically said not to.
If they said, "Hey, I see you dont got a TV to use with your PS3, you can use mine, so long as you don't hook your Wii up to it." It doesn't matter how profoundly assassin you think their policy... if you say COOL THANKS, I promise to use it such as you mentioned (like agreeing to a TOS such as you did when you registered to use FA), your the one being even more asinine if your so ungenerous and that much of a prick to go back on your word just so you can use what someone else has, and you don't.
---
So far the re-evaluation of the matter is leaning towards fractal generators being called what they are, generators, and pending just a bit more admin input on the topic, we may have to load these to photobucket or the like and link back, if we want to show them off to our furry buds... such as I suspected.
