I usually use watercolor paper (Strathmore or Canson) for acrylics. :3 To prevent crumples even further, tape the edges of the paper down.

ALL paper will buckle when wet, Some more than others. To prevent this, use MASKING TAPE to pin down edges and leave tape in place until piece is fully dry and you are through working on it.

If you're like me and like to flip the thing all around while you're working on it, buy yourself a 16 x 20 inch canvasboard (they cost about $2) and tape to that

If you're not taping it down, it will crumple. Even heavy bristol will develop waves. This is because you're wetting one side without wetting the other and it happens to every watercolorist. It has nothing to do with you personally.

Try it. Get some tape and a board and tape the edges. DO NOT REMOVE TAPE UNTIL PIECE IS DRY
