ENCRYPTION = FREEDOM Okay so, I decided to go ahead and start the journal. I know I didn't set a date for this like I said I would. That's still on the table though, I just wanted to go ahead and get some content out there to show off (and find out) what the weekly journals will be like. I've got some stuff to show you guys about the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), some info about our Twitter account, and an update on the progress of the group.
EPIC is a group that aggregates news about privacy issues and pursues activism relating to privacy issues. They've been working hard on getting out the word that drones are being used improperly, the TSA's nudie scanners are unacceptable, and recently have been trying to get Facebook and MySpace to release privacy reports. Also, if you clicked on the link earlier you might have noticed the navigation panel on the left side that has a big list of Hot Policy Issues that you might want to take a quick look at. EPIC is one of the main sources for our news and if you are interested you can read more about what privacy issues the world faces there. They have a Twitter account and jointly host #PrivChat on Twitter with @PrivacyCamp, which is an international discussion about current privacy issues on Twitter. All you have to do is use the hashtag #PrivChat.
And speaking of Twitter we've really made some improvements with our account. I hadn't previously used lists before and I just recently discovered them. So I made some and organized all of our lists to benefit our watchers and followers. If you haven't used lists before, all you have to do is subscribe to them and every time you login you can go to your lists and get the same feed that we use. It won't clog up your normal feed and it only shows up when you want it to. We'll probably be adding some lists in the future that display important people in the fandom as well as important government employees that people might be interested in connecting with. Anyway, I thought all of you might appreciate a little transparency in where we get our info.
Which brings me to the overall progress of EncryptoFurs. I've added a lot to the List Of Goals for EF and I've been working on them slowly. It may appear that I haven't gotten much done because I've been working on outreach and organization. It was something I really needed. I've been a mess with my bookmarks and Twitter accounts. I've fixed all the organization problems so I can go back to working on the Link Directory and the Bills and Laws Directory. I have a feeling that these two pages are going to be the most powerful. They are going to help people get connected to both methods of security as well as the people and news sources talking about them. Not to mention the potential for activism that they provide.
Anyway that's what's been going on lately. If you are interested in getting involved in EncryptoFurs, note me or comment here. I can use all the help I can get. Encouraging activism and educating about privacy and legislation can be really rewarding. :)
