House Broken Into

So, Sunday night when I got home from a friend's place, my neighbor was waiting for me to tell me someone had broken into my house. Thankfully, they didn't actually get anything, because my neighbor is an ex-marine and when he saw what was going on, he came after the guy and actually chased him down the street (but the guy had someone waiting in a car and got away). So the guy didn't actually steal anything and will probably never come near this neighborhood again. He may have nightmares about being chased down by ex-marines with a rifle. (I hope so, he deserves at least that much punishment. My neighbor said the guy looked about 15 or 16, though...so honestly, I just hope he makes better choices from now on. Just a kid...)
The worst part is that my door is pretty busted up (and that now I'm kind of paranoid and stressed). The dead bolt locks fine, but the handle lock is warped and despite my best efforts at putting it back together, it doesn't work right anymore. The door itself has a huge crack in the frame.
However, at work last night, I was telling my coworker that I hoped my parents would get me a new door as an early birthday present since I just can't afford one right now, and one of the pest control guys that was there for the monthly spray caught up with me as I was leaving and gave me $100 for a new door. It's just...that's one of the nicest things anyone has ever done. He doesn't know me - I'm just a kid that works at a restaurant that contracts with his pest control service. It makes me so happy to know that there are people out there who are capable of caring about other people still.

It's wonderful to hear some good overcame the bad.
Yes! There are still wonderful people in this world and it's those lights that make me want to continue on trying to be the best I can.
