well, those are nice (i have some warmachine stuff myself) but a bit expensive! im looking for a more all-in-one package, that doesnt require everyone to go out and buy stuff

its the R-rated version of Apples to Apples and is all kinda of hilarious. munchkin and all its expansion are highly rewcomended if your ok with relationships being challenged XD

You can also never dgo wrong with dungeons and dragons or pathfinder. Granted that takes dedication. Might find something out of this too

You mentioned a couple of my favorites. If you want something with a comedic twist, I recommend Order of the Stick: Dungeon of Doruukan. It's a little tough to learn, but it's great fun and the game lasts for ages (in fact, the main point of the first expansion is to provide options to SHORTEN the game).

i'm your fox! my family plays ALL sorts of crazy games! recently we picked up "Cards Against Humanity". it's just like "Apples to Apples", but for 18+

There's also "We Didn't Playtest This At All". it's just like "Flux", but more zany! The objective it to win! you do this by either winning, or by making other players lose. if you lose, you have not won, and are out of the game. Last person still playing, wins! :D
the creator is "Asmadi Games" it just recently go published as a full game, and now has its own expansion.

"Kittens in a Blender" is another great one. i only recently found out about it, so i don't know much. but from what i hear, it's hilarious!

One of the most complex games is Ikusa, the formerly called 'Shogun' boardgame.
A turn can easily last 5-6 hours while every player slowly moves up to 3 officer led armies over a map designed after japan.

It starts off like 'Risiko' but at the beginning of every turn you can place your 'income' on different attributes 'n even hire a ninja....
After some battles your officers can rise in rank and gain more movement per turn and whatnot :3

Guess there is more complex board games then this but it's pretty neat !

I've seen that one! It looks good, but some of the players in my group don't like games that might be too complex >.< so I have to plan for them @.@

Well read through the manual... if you know how 'Risiko' works it's not that complex .... well a little... it just takes long :P

I'm looking for games that aren't for kids (like monopoly of chutes and ladders or candyland) that aren't too complex.

Race for the galaxy (too much going on, some players didnt like that)
World of Warcraft: the boardgame (too much setup, too much going on, took too long to play)
Tannhauser (people were upset that the strategic buffs always won out on it)
Runebound (The huge 'epic quest' thing didn't sit too well with people)
Red November (it ended up being TOO simple- and also too small. We stopped playing after like 4 turns)

So yeah- im looking for something nice and in the middle of the spectrum. Shadows over Camelot is a great example because it wasn't too hard to pick up, and wasn't too long or too short. I realize this makes selection rather hard XD but now you feel my pain in my recent searches! lol

While there is Cards Against Humanity, you may want to try checking out Steve Jackson Games' collection, especially Ogre.

lots of time to set up but the games are pretty long and a bajillion combinations.
:) i've been enjoying the living hell out of it.

im not that big into marvel, BUT that did give me the idea to look for some deck building games XD

I found a whole bunch of other stuff along those lines- DC, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and even a resident evil one

theyre all pretty good ideas. the marvel is fun because the game can beat you XD!

Boardgames huh?

Well I've got a few suggestions:

If you're into cooperative games a couple good ones are "Sentinels of the Multiverse" if you like comic-book style super-heroes. And if you want something more Norse-themed you can always try Yggdrasil. Also Pandemic is another good co-op game.

If you want some sci-fi themed ship battle games that aren't too complex and have good gameplay I'd reccomend StarFleet Captains and Battleship Galaxies. They got ratings of 8 and 7 on Boardgame Geek respectively.

I also second Cards Against Humanity.

"Order of the Stick" can be fun too.

Kill Doctor Lucky is another good game.

Gloom is another good one too.

well, im -ok- with comic book stuff, but most of the other group members i play with arent really into that sort of thing >.<

I actually have recently bought pandemic, and while i haven't played it with anyone yet im REALLY hoping they enjoy it (they usually like cooperative stuff). On that note, yggdrasil looks interesting, but I have no idea how they are with mythological stuff XD

ship battle games... have not proven well with them. Usually strategy games tend to get dominated by a certain member of the group- he's good at strategy and tends to take command (thus overshadowing everyone) when such games happen.

I've seen kill doctor lucky, but it just didn't click with me! Gloom looked interesting, however (those clear cards were cool lookin)

Well, I'd still take a look at Sentinels of the Multiverse. The game's pretty humorous and once you get into it it becomes pretty obvious that the game has its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. It's also Co-Op which I really like, especially if one of the members of your gaming group is hyper-competitive.

And yes Pandemic is a great game. I'm sure once you can convince folks to try it out it'll go over well.

House on Haunted Hill is a great survival horror game that turns out differently almost every time you play.
Ticket to Ride is another fun one, building routes and blocking others off.
I'd recommend The Adventurers if you can find it, basically Indiana Jones in board game form.

Ah, house on haunted hill. I actually tried to play that one with them on my last day back in oregon.

But they were all drunk and partying and throwing up and no one wanted to play. Kinda a shame when the game otherwise looked good.

Ticket to ride looks very promising though! And I've not heard of the adventurers... ill have to look it up!

Personal favorites of my group lately:

Nuclear War (50 years old and still fun!)
Talisman (not quite as old, still fun, but takes a bit to play)
Zombies!!! (random boards, loads of zombie pieces)

Nuclear war, eh? I'll look it up though old games usually dont sit well with them.

I know of talisman though. A few of the group members aren't exactly into the epic quest thing (Runebound failed for whatever reason- either too long or complicated or whatnot and I put talisman on the same level).

And we have zombies, hehe. It's just the right level for everyone, but we've played the CRAP out of it @.@

Try Betrayal at House on the Hill; it's a pretty popular one amongst the gaming enthusiast group on my campus (that I occasionally exploit).

These are the best I have played and the ones I tend to come back to.

Dominion is popular and fun but gets old really fast.

To further explain, the problem with Dominion is the mechanics are really simple which is great and makes it easy to learn. However the game is not very well balanced so once someone spends time to learn the cards by playing online or simply playing they will master it and every game with certain cards will play the same. And it becomes not fun for those who don't know because those who do master it /never ever lose/ and if everyone has it just comes down to luck.

The games I recommended take longer than dominated to learn and a lot longer to get boring. Puerto Rico is the first to, if you play three player the game gets boring as it ends up playing the same way every time but four or five remains vibrant and interesting especially with the expansion buildings.

I have been there! and i frequent it a lot. But alas its hard to tell what the game is like without playing it, methinks (though the site is really helpeful).

Ive only played 3 of the games from that list you have mentioned, 4 including dominion- and you are right about it. It gets old kinda fast.

Dungeons n dragons, if nobody has said that yet

a DnD boardgame? id say about half the group really isn't into DnD since they don't want to invest the time into making chars and whatnot. Also im only visiting my home state for a week so rolling up characters isn't really feasable, lol.

lol i always enjoyed the old heros quest game, fun dungeon explorer setup. Nobody ever used the core rules honestly so mostly it just became a kinda house rules adventure dungeon game, warhammer fantasy figures fit the board well so i often had alot of those added in for higher quality models, and of course if your willing to put in the time to come up with creative house rules for it or design your own board tile sets theres really no end to what ya can do with it *Shrug*, but yeah honestly if you cant find a good one using one then creating house rules is often way more exciting.

i used to have an old hero's quest game. They are pretty valuable now... I think our old one got sold at a garage sale we had before my parents moved. I miss it.

let's see now... DnD, pathfinder, warhammer... all games you could spend over a hundred hours on, and still be having fun. get some of the books, find a group of friends, and let the gaming commence.

well, that may be true, but im pretty sure the rest of them can't afford the books/materials to tabletop game XD I was looking more for boxed boardgames :p

well, if the books are a problem, one can find the .pdf file version, if one looks hard enough. as for boxed, i bring a fist- sized bag of dice, and all the DM needs is a mat with 3x4 dry- erase marker- capable mat with 1inchx 1 inch squares, and a bag of dice and about 20 enemy figs. less than 100 bucks for a group od up to 8
