R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen

...weird. The morning I post over at Inkbunny about resurrecting my old Academy setting, the guy I named it for dies. Would this classify as some kind of omen..?
I've followed his career since I was a kid, before I even knew there was anyone who HAD a career to follow. I was big into the special effects scene as a kid, tho', and soon I saw this long-ass name popping up EVERYWHERE, almost always connected to the stuff I loved. When I learned as an adult that the crux of my tokusatsu love, Godzilla himself, was DIRECTLY INSPIRED by Harryhausen's "Beast From 30,000 Fathoms," it just seemed like kismet...although I seriously doubt he would be as honored by my attempt at tribute, a fictional school for teenage monsters named after him...or maybe he would. I never claimed to know him.
He wasn't an idol, but he was someone I deeply admired and who was intrinsically tied to some of the few bright spots in my horrible life. Rest in peace.

Time for a Harryhausen marathon in a dark room with a lot of liquor.
And I look at it like this- while none of us are long for this world, we all leave our mark on it... and that makes us immortal, as long as we're remembered. And Mr. Harryhausen's good work will never be forgotten.
He rode his own Pegasus to Heaven, where he'll be attended by everything from an animated Kali statue to a horned Cyclops to the skeletons spawned by the Teeth Of Sown Men. ^w^ Weep not for Ray Harryhausen, for he had a long and illustrious career and left a legacy that will never be forgotten.
I think I'll pop it in today. Just... a bit of an homage to a great man whose work I wish I could've known better.
