Hi everyone! Been a while, eh?
First off let me reassure you, I am not dead! The past few months have been rather stressful and extremely busy for me. Here's why:
Back to the classroom! I enrolled and started classes for a graphic design certificate. While the classes aren't hard per-say (only taking two), they are time-eaters. Graphic design is such a different mental process compared to regular illustration! Only 3 more weeks till the semester ends! Phew! Thankfully I'm actually kind of ahead on the final projects, so hopefully no crunch-time.
COMICS! One of the more exciting pieces of news is that I have been working on some things for Boom! Studios. I did colors for a short Regular Show story, and a cover for Bravest Warriors (which I'll show once they are announced). These had some very short and quick deadlines that demanded my immediate attention, but they were a huge opportunity so not one I could pass up.
My dayjob has been all over the place. I work for a petsitting company, which normally is great (I get paid to play with puppies). Hours are a bit unpredictable, but usually flexible. However, much like everything else in my life, things never stay easy. My boss is going to Africa for several months in the fall, and has chosen me to run her business (ugh, responsibility). Her business is expanding rapidly, so much that we've been hiring new staff. ... Staff that doesn't seem to want to stick around. We've already lost 4 people and had rehire just as many (one quit on the spot, another fired). Which means I usually get stuck with many of the extra hours on the spot. :T We're working through it, but I"ll admit it's work I don't want to deal with >_<
Another tough struggle for me this winter has been with my family. I don't usually talk about my personal life this much, but this winter both of my aunts were diagnosed with cancer. My family is small and close-knit, so having both of them diagnosed so quickly was a shock and a bit of a scare (both are my mother's only sisters, so that a bit scary for she and I). They both had surgery and are going through chemo. It's a tough waiting game to see how well treatment will work. My family has always been extremely healthy, so we've been a bit unprepared on how to handle this. v_v
And that leaves me with bits of time here and there for commissions. *lies down*
I just finished a rather large piece, which while fun, I'm glad is done. It was another bookcover that had a deadline, hence it's priority. NOW things have just finally calmed down. Classes are manageable, work I can deal with, and I only have a few more weeks till I'm off for the summer (both school and work). I recognize I have commissions that are WAY overdue, and I want to thank everyone for their patience (I think about them allll time time *guilt guilt guilt*). My #1 goal is to get them all done ASAP!
So how have you all been? I feel so bad for neglecting this place :c
p.s. I tend to update/blab more frequently on Tumblr now. Pencilcat
