From everything I have read it sounds like Furlandia would need to find a new hotel, not invite MTV or any media like that, change how they run a con, fix a wide range of issues, become less boring and then things would be better. I shall just stick with Rainfurrest.

The hole they have dug for themselves is about a half mile deep. I don't see them recovering. IF, and that's a big if, they return next year, the attendance will be cut in half and will for sure be their last.

It seems they would have to do an amazing job next year and have word spread over time that things have gotten better. Or just forget it and have someone else come along to create a new better planed convention. Even being just two hours away I would not go based on what I have heard about it.

And it sucks too because Portland is such an open environment that would be friendly to suiters. We would be so at home here for a convention but these guys go and bugger it up. They've definitely made some mistakes but I'm hoping they're just learning and that it'll wisen up with time.

I'd say dont stay at ALL. That hotel was awful, it was the worst hotel i've ever stayed at.
We had to sleep on the balcony for f*cks sake! (I dont curse often, this goes to show how upset i am about this)

It wasn't just one thing silly Multiple issues made us sleep on the balcony. Oh! Are you going to Rhys's party tonight?

Not sure as of yet, I feel like I had enough alcohol at the convention xD between you and ben just handing me cups of screwdrivers over and over and over and over and over .....

I went to Furlandia. It was "year 0" for them, so I am cutting them some slack and I'm sure the organizers will learn from the feedback. The hotel itself was awful for guest experience, and the organizers are planning to look for another venue next year. While many experienced furs that have attended dozens of cons over the years have criticized Furlandia, it was a good experience for those who are entering fursuiting and the fandom.

If Furlandia was a first to me, I'm sure it was nice. But people who know better can realize how bad it was. Once you goto an amazing furry con like RainFurrest or VancouFUR, you'll see what they are supposed to be like.

Speaking of VancouFUR, the Furlandia staff had ALOT of experience con experts in Seattle and Vancouver to learn from and ask for advice. After a disaster like this, it makes me wonder if they even asked once for any advice or help.

In terms of first year cons, I'd say this was worse then Everfree last year, but better then Unicon. Of course, Furlandia didn't have any GOH to pay.

I can't help but feel amused knowing that we stayed at a hotel that they had intended to demolish, given the state of the hotel they should of gone with those plans.

I am so out of the furry loop at this point, I was not even aware of this con going on in my home town just a stone throw away from where I work. I was actually down at EQLA when this con was going on and was told about it after I got back.

I would be curious to who is behind Furlandia, as I suspect it might be some of the usual yahoos that tend to give the overall community a bad name. I mean for heaven's sake, there is a reason why it has been so difficult to even get a con going in Portland. One being that the we don't exactly have the best and brightest furs in the PDX area, but also because downtown Portland is an absolutely horrible venue for a convention.

Any kind of furry convention that wants to be a success needs to be held at a hotel near the airport. They are decently sized, relatively inexpensive and easy for people to get to. Mind you, unless you are attracting the proper talent to fill your vendor hall with and to preform as part of the programming, no matter where you are located your con is going to be a let down.

Part of me, as being someone that has been a part of a variety of successful conventions, wants to reach out and help them turn things around. The other part of me wants to say fuck it and swim away from what is obviously already a sinking ship.

A three year lease for a first year con... fucking amateurish.

I'm not sure where you heard Furlandia signed a three-year contract with the University Hotel. Furlandia's Facebook page post denies that rumor. Furlandia also says they are not returning to University Hotel next year. Even for me being at my first con I saw there could be more improvements from the organization themselves, the dealers, and the panels. I will wait to see how it all goes next year after the lessons learned from this year. I saw the same thing from HowlCon back in October, 2012.

I will be attending RainFurrest later this year and VancouFur in 2014. I'm sure that might help me put things into perspective as how a con should be.

I spoke with them directly, they have not signed a 3 year deal and are currently looking in to other hotel options for next year.

Its justa matter of waiting to see how things pan out and how wisely the time is used from now until next years.
