Question for commissioners -- and back again!
My anniversary was wonderful! :3 My husband and I had a lovely day together. So now it's back to work! My commissioners can expect updates today; I will try my best to get around to everyone by tonight.
I did have a question for those of you who have or might commission art (from me, or anyone else).
Do you prefer public commission queues?
I generally make it a practice to keep my commission queue private, as I tend to find it rather an unnecessary thing to have made public, and I know some commissioners don't like having it made public knowledge that they're commissioning someone. However, over the past couple of years it seems to have become practically a standard among those selling commissions.
So would you prefer to see a public commission queue, or would you rather I kept the information private?
Have a lovely day! <3

And if people want whatever you're drawing to be private, they can ask to be off the queue so they can instead just ask! XD
Though you could have a que visible, and have the word 'Name Witheld' or 'private' on there.
I have been a bit suspicious in the past when other people's art stuff was put up before mine, only to find out the artist had them listed above me, saved me from looking stupid a couple of times.
On topic, it's not a deal breaker if an artist has a private queue, but public queues can be convenient and reassuring. With most artists, I'd prefer to commission them when their workload isn't huge, so having it in the open is extremely helpful. Also, having seen so many artists overbook themselves and making customers wait for months to years or never delivering, I feel better when I can see that there's progress being made, even if it isn't my spot on the list. There are, of course, plenty of artists who never have this problem, but I'm willing to bet public queues becoming "standard" probably relate back to those who unfortunately bite off more than they can chew.
Ultimately, though, if you have a good rep and no trouble with getting the work done, it shouldn't affect you too much. Whatever works best for you!

i finally made mine private again after years. i just didn't like people speculating on my workload. in person i had someone tell me that i had the longest queue they had ever seen :p

I only have spidey senses. :C
Personally, I like commission queues in general because it's good for transparency; knowing where I am in line helps me make sure the artist is getting around to me like he or she is supposed to (and not, you know, taking on new work and ignoring the old or something.) On the other hand, for you, I've commissioned you enough times that I already know you're awesome and you always come through. XD So I'd say it's something that's neat and that I like in general, but not actually necessary in your specific case if it causes problems with other people, I guess?
