Puppies!!!!!!
My poor parents had a very long night and quite a lot of worry our Labrador Gem has finally popped out TEN little puppies. She started at 20:30 and they popped out nice and regular (the only difficulty was that gem cut the umbilical cord to short on one of the little girlies so she bled a bit, nothing a little first aid could fix). There was a big gap between pup six and seven and then there was an even longer gap between pup seven and eight (We waited 5 hours for that little one to pop out; the vet said that as gem was showing no signs of distress we should leave her to it) when it finally popped out ( and pop it did, she was standing when he just fell out) we all thought it would be dead!! But he started wriggling and squeaking straight away. I finally made it to bed at 6am (and my parents took over the watch) then the little madam popped out three more!!! Unfortunately the last little one was still born (pup 11) (although my parents tried hard to revive it). Still I was absolutely frilled to wake up earlier today to find ten little wrigglers all yapping away beside their mum. Gem has been an absolute diamond and she is being very protective and attentive. Now the really hard work starts for her!!
