its not that i hate yiff or such..
but... That seems to be the only stuff we are showing to the outside

And i bet in a few hours there will be many comments like "Ahh you asshole, ahh you're against furrys" and such things.

Try to think about that fact: there are awesome people on the fandom that just don't want to show themselve just because they have the respect to don't disturb anything. Even if they should!

I don't even tell that the "good" furs are just whaiting in their own part, but that's like it most of the time.


One other fact to think about: You're cool and just show that there are not only one, but a LOT of good parts being a furry. Thank you! *hug*

I look at it this way, I can like yiff all I want but I'm not going to go around wearing t-shirts that say yiff on them or randomly grope ppl in public. There is a proper place for everything, and "yiff" shouldn't be the first thing people think of when they think of furries in my opinion.

Well many things weren't supposed to be in the oxford dictionary but if hundreds of thousands of people were using the word, Bitch for instance, I think yiff should be allowed. Furries have a tendency to try hard to get us into the mainstream and out of the shadows when I don't think its a wise thing to do yet. Yes I want furries to be on the map and for others to understand that mentality and to the show the world we are rational people just with a certain tendency to like our animal sides.

They have added stupid words into the dictionary before, yiff isn't that lewd or not that vulgar. Comparatively they have added such words as Dick Bitch Fuck Ass-wipe etc.

I am for furries who advocate what we do, and who we are, but I disagree with the objectiveness of their tactics. I would personally would have went with the word "Murr" or "Scritch" .

Wow and as for others that say you won't where t-shirts with who you are, a furry. That's a shame. I would sport a shirt with yiff on it, the words all over the place its like if your from Germany you can't where anything from your culture. No German flags anywhere, or don't even speak nor write the language. You made mention as well to be proper with language, "their is a right time and a place for everything". Being yourself is something you shouldn't discourage no matter if you view it as something that you think is wrong. Yes it is kind of stupid sometimes, but if you want media and other people to truly see what furries are about, the more of the people that complain and do nothing in the shadows are the one's that they will never get to know.

With that said I'm using this as a point, you are furry, so why not where t-shirts with wolf's on it or cute shirts with a kid holding the word "yiff" its not that embarrassing, I think that kids wearing jeans halfway down their ass is embarrassing. why not embrace who you are? Go out wearing and sporting your tail and ears, yea people will look at you weird, but I dont care. I have skateboarded around my city which happens to be less then 20 minutes train ride across from New York City and hell I have worn my tail and stuff around one of the most populated cities in the world.

Why do I do it? Cause its who I am. But this is one of the things I love about this world, everyone has an opinion and entitled to it and should voice it. I'm voicing mine and I am a furry.

Ok in light of things, you said shirt that says Sex and wanna Fuck, when Yiff is quite a different term you would have to depict it different like Wompom Which would be a different word then sex, clearly if you where something like "Wompom" Would people know what it is? Seriously, no one knows what the word "yiff" is in the world and the very few are furs for the majority.

Also when people where like their own language shirts, that say stupid phrases, its in the same light.

Your next comment about the oxford dictionary, well its the truth but Yiff wouldn't be known as that at all because the term yiff would be. "The act of flirtatious sexual acts," So its an oxford dictionary so you would understand they wouldn't deem anything more then that. They are not propaganda and not into exploitation.

And as a furry its your responsibility to break the myths about furries, well you have to understand that furries have been in negative light no matter what. So to say stuff like that, getting us on the map would alleviate any problems because then media won't have play on us. As I said I don't agree in their tactics but to say that you would tell people you are a furry you explain it to them.

The gay pride you would be surprised how much of that is a gay bash and because of that, the media that is Christian will put them in such a negative light. So its always like that, what people don't understand they will take the worse part of the group and label it as the larger self of the whole group. So if its gay's is the flamboyant gay's that can't keep touching themselves, etc. They don't know that gay groups are charitable and do so much in the community just like furries. Look at it this way, people that see the worse in us, should be able to note the good. But media will eat up what the majority wants to hear.

Its the same as being gay and furr, It depends on what you explain to do and people that don't understand will always showcase you in that negative light. So for you to say that, its your job and our job as furries to break the stereotype. See people don't see the word furry but see its deviants and its extreme's. Its not about popularity its about acceptance. So I agree with you that some are doing the wrong way to get known and all but its better then doing NOTHING AT ALL. Sitting on your ass complaining about furries, when you are a furry sitting down and doing nothing is just as good as trying to yiff in fursuits on the White House Lawn.

Now as for the word its not a wrong place for the word, just don't think it deserves to be in there at this time until people break the stereotype.

No I used the German example because its a culture isn't it? Last time I checked its stereotype is people that hate one another because of the way they speak to one another, love metal music, enjoy dominatrix, are serial killers, and always talk about beer. Every culture no matter big nor small has their stigma's attached. Some people still think it should be punished for WW2. Just. Because. So its a perfect example I was displaying how a culture that is unknown to people could have that because media and what they see is almost the worse in everything. So I could compare it to something like that because it has relevance and showcases media and everything else to be portrayed by.

Actually I have looked into this further, actually quite informed more to this situation then most because its something I am and I should know cause I am a furry that could even bring this to a podium and discuss it with world leaders if I have to. <just as an example>

Weirder words have gotten into the dictionary. I really wouldn't worry about it too much. It just goes to show how much the fandom is becoming mainstream, and I think that's a good thing. There are enough people out there that think we are freaks. Well, I think some Trekkies can be freaks (I'm a Trekkie too, by the way. lol) It just depends on the person behind the fur.

That is true. Yiff does have a certain negative feeling to it. However, I have seen artwork depicting aliens at Sci-Fi conventions doing the same exact things. The problem here is that we are furries, not aliens. It's a type of prejudice.

The "add yiff to the dictionary" petition first started in 2004 and as far as I know it was started by Something Awful members for... whatever sort of lulz they meant to get out of it.

It's old news, making the rounds again.

...it's stuff like this that makes me embarrassed to be a furry.
