FREE ART!!! help me with my portfolio
hey kids i have to make a portfolio by the 11th for my art & design course basically
yeah it was super nice to know one was required when i got the letter literally 9 days before i have to go to the damn welcome event thing
but anyway i can throw in a lot of work i've already done but i want a couple different things so
comment w/ a ref!! and i might draw it idk.
it'll be different from my normal stuff obviously.
i also want to try and do some work with markers but since i have a limited selection, i'll probably just do that with random designs unless your design happens to have the exact colours i have in promarkers
also does anyone know what they actually... expect in a portfolio
it's only a level 2 BTEC/GCSE level so??

BABIES
A favourite of course tutors to see in a folio however is development work that leads up to a final outcome. Having the actual final outcome is not as interesting to them as the development work tho so dont worry if you havent any final big pieces. Just describe what you were going to do for the final outcome if they ask (is it an interview???)
And in my experience, course tutors for art & design arnt too interested in digital pieces. I mean, bring them along definatly, but dont try and make your digital work the majority of your folio. What i have done in interviews with my digital work is just bring my laptop along and ask if they would like to see my digital work AFTER i have shown them my physical folio.
YOUR PHYSICAL FOLIO IS THE MAIN THING YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON.
ALSO SUBJECT MATTER!! What you are drawing/painting/whatever should not be the same thing featured on each piece of work. A really nice folio consists of a wide variety of subject matter such as, landscapes, figures, still life etc.
Every single course tutor that interviewed me however has said that the main thing they look for is the ability and evidence that you have been and are able to do observational drawings and draw things from real-life. This is a key skill they look for.
IN CONCLUSION, I usually put together a folio consisting mostly of development work done in previous courses, observational work done in my own time and done on other courses, and then other mixed media work that i find particularly interesting. I also then offer the interviewer if they would like to view my digital work or not.
For a level 2 course however i really wouldnt sweat it that much, just dont inculde too much of the same thing and show them a variety of differnt works. But really dont worry, even when i did my level 3 interview they are only looking to see if you really want to do the course and take a quick look at your work. Half the people after my interview didnt even turn up with a folio and they got in!!
DONT SWEAT IT!
And also because there's literally a 9 day warning that i got telling me i have to do this i cant produce barely any work??? I wanted to do a few things including traditional hence journal but i really cant do a whole lot. And i cant really do anything about landscapes etc.
The huge, huge bulk of mt work is digital i have maybe 5 traditional things i can put in. We arent even allowed to take our dumbass work from our shitty 2 hour art class home? They need to keep all work as "evidence".
There will be an interview at some point but we leave our portfolios on some table for them to look through or something. We're supposed to mark them with our name and "school" (guess i'll have to put options course??) but i have produced fuck all art wise from my current course and ive done fuck all at home traditionally. SIGH can i put an apology in like "lol literally no one told me id need a portfolio and my current art lesson is shit as hell im sorry"
BUT NO thank u for helping!!
Hopefully i can get away with basically just dogs/animals LOL ill try to include some from-life sketches tho!!
U WILL DONT WORRY BABE
