At 5 cents/word, the entire Harry Potter series would have cost $54'000 or so to commission. And would have gone on to create a brand worth over $15 billion. Money well spent for words well written ;)

Yes, if I didn't need the extra income, I probably would not be devoting so much time to writing furry stories. I do not particularly have the passion for it, but people love what I write, so I'm happy with that. :D

Since you don't really know how I work, it's unfair of you to judge. I estimate the length of the story and come up with a workable fee through word-count. In ALL cases, yes all of them, I've actually written more than what I initially charged.

Finally, my "resume" will speak for itself. Over 30 years as a freelance writer, 19 years owning my own writing and editing business, 7 years as a literary agent to major publishing firms. (I simply got out of literary agent work because e-publishing was starting to explode, and I was not needed as much). More than 200 stories, 7 books, over a thousand nationally published articles and blogs. :D

And that's me. So...if you have anything else you'd like to add, by all means please do. I don't tell people, "Hey, I charge whatever I want, and you'll like it, trust me." I tell them, "Let's work out how to make things fair between us. And you'll absolutely love the work I do." If I offered a money-back guarantee, I promise you, hardly anyone would ask for it back.

Well, I've read his writing, and it's not that bad, but it does need some help. I'd have been perfectly happy to offer pointers, but his problem is, he doesn't believe anyone is good enough to warrant the kind of money I make from stories. Should I even bother to tell him that Playboy Magazine used to offer TEN THOUSAND dollars for a short story? Of course not. He's convinced professional writers shouldn't make a living. :P
