Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite.
Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy X-2 as well as 13-2.

FF6 is my 2nd fav, Kefka being my fav villain other than Queen Zeal from CT

Queen Zeal was pretty cool as far as villains go. Nobody beats Kefka though in FF terms... crazy son of a bitch actually managed to destroy the world.
I can't think of any other FF villain that actually accomplished that.

none have, queen zeal is just insane and her 3 part fight is pretty fun, I looove kefka don't get me wrong just never got into the character, as much as i wanted to.

Lol, what it should have done is get started faster, it took way to long for the game to get good.

That's what a lot of my RPG-loving friends say "Just stick with it, it gets better after X hours!"

A game needs to get better faster than after an hour or two.

I also found this to be Kingdom Hearts 2 and LoZ SkywardSword's weaknesses.

KH2 I didn't mind because I was already invested in the story after the first KH and I actively wanted to see it through, but you're totally right there. Have not played Skyward Sword yet...nor Twilight Princess. I've never owned a wii.

TP is also on gamecube if you have that.

KH2 didn't bother as much for that reason. Though it still dragged on, even though I like Roxas. The other games have been better about getting things going pretty quickly.

haha, FF7 was my first Rpg I beat when I was a kid. (i didn't have many game systems as a child) but playing it again now that I'm older, it's kinda meh.

I didn't have a Playstation at the time, so I only played FF7 once I had my own PS2 several years later. Holy mother of god that game was painfully boring. And Timers...on a turn-based battle system. Just no. Bad. No.

ATB is good, when done correctly.

Chrono Trigger is the best example of a good ATB based game.
cause it takes more thought with the boss battles than mashing attack like you ended up doing or spamming ultima in FF7 haha

I actually tried playing Chrono Trigger too recently...I couldn't get into it.

And to me, turn-based battle implies coming up with a plan, especially if you're controlling 3-4 characters with vast arrays of skills and stats. Managing all of that while on a clock just seems wrong to me.

haha yeah I can see that, I feel it gives anohter level of challenge having to think on your feet, idk though it's something I grew up with. Was more into final fantasy and dragon quest than mario/sonic or metroid

I've never understood the popularity of FFVII. First in the series to have 3D rendering technology available, I guess. I couldn't stand Cloud long enough for the story to gain any coherence before I quit.

its not terrible but its nowhere near the title of "masterpiece" or "best game ever" that people keep throwing at it.
Honestly I probably hate its reputation and fans more than the game itself. there are worst RPGs out there, but this one is not the best nor is it even all that great, its just okay.

and what you said about being told that a game gets better after a certain period of time... :V yea anyone who has to use that argument is instantly invalidated. if a game starts out as shit, stays shit for a long time, and only slightly improves later, its only better shit than the shit you were shoveling through before but in the end its still shit.

Aaah Chrono Trigger is great. I like it too.
But I think my favorite would be Tales of Destiny, which is the only "Tales of" game that I have played, but I loved it a lot.

And Final Fantasy VIII, actually. One that people usually don't especially like.

OH AND MY LEAST FAVORITE idk really. I haven't played a ton, so I like most of what I played. Legend of Dragoon was confusing and tough so I guess that's my least favorite??

i didn't mind ff13 that much, it was fun enough to beat. I bought the collectors of 13-2 and i can say i couldn't finish it. just ugh it was horrible.

Huh, I found the sequel to be more enjoyable.

Amen, much better game than the first, lol.

Still full of hallways but there was a lot more choice, you could change between the characters easily and the time-travel stuff was fun.

Favorite: tie between Shining Force 2 (Genesis) and Ogre Battle 64 (N64)
Least favorite: everything else (I'm not a big RPG fan, especially of the "random battle every two steps!" RPGs)

IMO, the second was better than the first. (But skip the sequel, NEO. It's pure garbage.)

There are so many things wrong, the things right will be a shorter list.
Great graphics.
Some good characters.
Good sound effects.
A handful of amazing music.

Yeah, FF13 was a game that looked amazing, but didn't play well. Shame too, I liked a lot of characters.
Unfortunately the music gets repetitive as well. :/

The music was misplaced in so many areas. Shaz and Vinelle were escaping for an military airship. What plays? Smooth jazz. FITS PERFECTLY RIGHT?

They could have done a much better job with that, though it might have to do with how a lot of the music was changed from the Japanese version. (I dunno what it was originally)

I looked into it, there is only 1 change in the placement of music between the English and Japanese versions.

huh, I do know they altered the music a bit but it looks like they already had problems.

Reminds of the music they played during the end of FF13-2 not fitting at all.

FFX was my favorite to play, though the cutscenes get annoying after the first playthrough. I like how flexible it was and how you could make your characters basically anything you wanted them to be, though it did have some of the most ridiculous sidequests. (Chocobo racing, catching butterflies, cactuars, etc.)

Least favorite, I'd have to go with FFIII. I cannot say how much I have raged at that game just because of how stupidly hard it is pre-grinding.

Awh, the grinding is what I loved about those old school snes rpgs haha

I'm amazed that people hate FFX-2 so much.

In my opinion it was good, in fact, it's my second favorite Final Fantasy game. (Final Fantasy: Tactics Advance is #1) Yuna and Rikku grow as characters, Paine was a great addiction, a villain that you despise and understand. A fantastic combat and leveling system that puts FFX to absolute shame.

Not to mention the fight with Shadow Bahamut was tear jerking, it was so sad for Yuna yet Paine and Rikku shouts to Yuna, "You must fight, you must kill it Yuna!"

it would have been fine. if it was taken seriously as the other FFs were but the j-poppiness and overall satirical feeling of it was what turned me off of it. I beat it, 100% got the mascot costumes, just because it was a final fantasy game (I was like 14 at the time.) but like the concept was great, just it felt too dumbed down and simple for me compared to my more fav FF games.

Fave - Suikoden 2, for being mute Riou is so incredibly complex. and everyone is just lovable. The way it ties i to Suikoden 1 is also the best way Ive seen a sequel handled

Most hated - Magna Carta - that. fucking. gameplay.

its free to play, but is built on Valve's source engine, has high quality gameplay , certainly if you love action Hack and slash!
and its not 100% gear and level based, mostly skill and doding based

It was a close tie tween CT and Earthbound for #1 ;w;

Earthbound (And Mother 3) are absolutely amazing. Trying to be as spoiler-free as possible, the ending of the final boss fight makes me tear up almost every time I play it.

My favourite RPG is probably FFIX. Least favourite is a tossup between FFVIII, FFX and FFMQ.

how are people listing FFXIII/13-2 as the worst RPGs you've played? Has no one touched the horrible, rotten mess of garbage that was the text-unreadable disaster of Infinite Undiscovery? That's pretty much the definition of a horrible game.

i tend to not touch things that look horrible.

Fave - Shining Force and Shining Force 2 (Grew up with them)

Least Fave - Forsaken world (found it kinda clunky, didn't like the map system, but hey its FTP so didn't have high expectations)

I have a hard time choosing just one favorite RPG, mostly because I hardly like any at all but the ones I do like, I love.
I can just categorize them.
best open world would be Skyrim.
best best action/rpg hybrid would be Dragon's Dogma. (probably the one I played the most)
best turn based rpg is a tie between Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Trigger.

and my least favorite RPG series would be the kingdom hearts games (more like kingdumb hurts, amiright?) but the worst stand alone would probably be FF-13 (both 1 and 2 and Im already going to assume lightning returns is gonna suck as well)

Least Fav: Xenosaga 2 - I loved the first game so so so MUCH! But then this game had so much less story/cutscenes, and the worst fetch quests with a complete lack of motivations and story related to them in the history of the genre. =-_-=

Xenosaga 2 was awkward, they changed art style mid series and the combat system was...AWKWARD. :S

I love pretty much all RPGs I've played, because I like having a strong diversity in playing style that is not so easy to compare the style of play to another.

The only RPG I can think of that I question the most is Square's Unlimited SaGA. It's the only RPG that I know of that you really can't build your levels up and the fighting system is a roulette wheel. That makes fighting a boss dang near impossible. It's the play control that makes the game the biggest sac of flaming excrement out of all games. As far as I'm concern, a good RPG is a game that you can have fun playing, and most people shoot their mouths off with repugnant crap towards RPGs that really were good for stupid reasons. As far as I'm concerned, it could have the crappiest story ever constructed, but it wouldn't matter too much if the actual game itself is fun. This is the reason why I hate very few games.

Favorite is probably Dark Souls.

Least favorite would have to be all of Final Fantasy after 10.
