Tip for you when it comes to toys. Do not spend money. expensive toys and houses and such will be left untouched.
Kitties want 3 things for amusement.

1) scratching post. these can be inexpensive and made of carpet on a stick or cardboard

2) Paper Bag. this bag of mystery will give them endless amusement. as well as you, watching them.
2a) A small empty box will also work.

3) Paper ball. just crumple up a piece of paper and toss it to the ground, and watch them chase it forever until they inevitably lose it under furniture.

4) The little tab thingie you pull off a milk carton. The absolute most fun thing a kitty will ever play with. no idea why.

we got packing paper on the floor, he loves it

good good. come Christmas, leave any wrapping paper thrown about the floor. so fun to watch them run about in it

Attach the paper ball to a string and hang the string.

I had a toy like that for my cat (no idea what ever happened to it) and he just LOVED playing with it and chasing it as it swung around.
