Generally AWA, Momocon and Dragon Con are the only times I see people in fursuits outside of the convention area. You might try Piedmont Park though. It's open, there is plenty of green space and you might run across some kids to interact with as well since they have two playgrounds. The only other place that might even remotely be friendly is Little Five Points since there are all sorts of artsy and accepting people in that area.
