No comic today! *whew!* and MY FAVORITE ART SUPPLIES
17 years ago
Got an extension. But like, I already got an extension O_o So this is extension number TWO.
I feel like such a douche XD
But at least I wasn't alone. Out of 16 people, only 5 had submitted in time. The rest of us will be done in a matter of days.
Now I can do a better job cleaning it up, AND I can re-ink some things for an art show I'm supposed to be in this weekend O_o
Now, onto the important stuff... MY FAVORITE ART SUPPLIES!
I have about 4 different pencil boxes, all equipped with the same implements, just so I have one in every location I draw in (desk, bedside, bag, etc.). The contents of each one are as follows:
PENCIL: Mechanical, baby. I've been using mechanical pencils since I was 7. Traditional wooden pencils suck in so many ways. You can't get a consistent line weight, you can't do detail without sharpening a bajillion times, etc. I do not like them for what I do.
Preferred tool: I've used a 0.5 Zebra M-402 with hb lead for the last 12 years. The same one. I really like the weight and the rubber grip.
Recently, I bought some of these babies:

Because they have a really nice weight and looked solid as fuck. THEY ARE HOT. I am really enjoying them, but at $15 a pop, I can't afford to use them anywhere but at my desk, so these are my core set of pencils and live in my nifty leather pencil case, along with my set of Copic SP Mulitliners. Sadly, they have a diamond cut grip surface, which is abrading the fuck out of my finger, but I hope to get a nice callous from that soon.
ERASERS:
Sanford Tuff Stuff eraser stick
http://www.dickblick.com/zz215/35/#items
I've had the same one, with the same eraser in it, since I was 16, so that should tell you what an awesome investment these things are. Mine just broke. Fortunately, Sanford still makes these beauties and I'm gonna pick up four more. JUST IN CASE.
Kneaded eraser
http://www.dickblick.com/zz215/02/
Great for erasing around delicate pencil work and lightening lines. Doesn't leave erasings. You can't live without it, trust me.
Sanford Mars Plastic eraser
http://www.dickblick.com/zz215/00/#items
These things are the shit. I used to use Japanese erasers exclusively, because I couldn't find a decent eraser here in the US, but these babies are alright. Great for erasing pencils from an inked drawing and other large areas. Best thing to use to completely get rid of all traces of pencil.
RULER:
6" C-Thru protractor ruler http://www.benmeadows.com/search/C-.....sredirect=true
This thing is fucking perfect in every way. It's small, it fits in my pencil box, it's see through, it has a protractor on it, a grid, and measures in inches and centimeters. I mean, like, seriously. There is no more perfect tiny ruler in existence.
LEAD:
Pentel HB, 0.5 But I really have no preference, as long as it's not cheap and doesn't break excessively.
I also keep a tiny blending stick in each box for if I'm doing something in pencil and want to make it all smooth and nice, but that's rare these days.
I have a variety of other tools at home and I'll use whatever is necessary in order to get the look I want. Sometimes I experiment and fuck things up, but you gotta do that in order to learn, so I try to not be too disappointed. It's hard, though, since I'm a perfectionist.
Anyway, I'm playing hooky from work right now, so I'd better get my butt in gear :) What do you folks use?

I haven't tried one yet. Maybe I will give one a try tonight! I found one for four dollars at a Salvation Army and gave it to my boyfriend :/
