No doubt most of you have heard of this already!
For those of you who haven't, listen up!
A Texas teenager who has been in jail since March faces an eight-year prison sentence because of a threatening joke he made while playing League of Legends.

This whole thing is outright baffling, Not just for what hes accused of, but the mere fact the the Amarican Police have the athoraty to arrest some one, just for making a sarcastic comment in a video game!!
Are you fucking kidding me??... Like ok... I know there is a law that will get you arrested if you say "Bomb" at an airport... But since when is there a law that gets you arrested for saying something in a FUCKING VIDEO GAME????
You guys have no Idea how angry, AND scared this makes me!
I'm Canadian not Amarican, but if this Kid acctually gets sent to prison for this. I honestly moving to Russia, I an not exaggerating! If this is what Amarica is turning into, I want to be as far away from Amarica as possable, in the most Anti American country in the fucking world!
I've alredy signed the Petition to stop this horrific injustice, If you haven't already please sign this Petition so we might save this young man from losing 8 years of his life, in a jail cell!!

I dont think a game went by where I didn't threaten my team mates and/or their families and pets, with bodily harm.
What ever happened to free speech?
This stuff happens in the most rational of societies, there are lapses in judgement and injustices, the difference is whether there is a system designed to sort them out. If this case ever possibly managed to make it to supreme court, it would be overturned in a second.
I also find it interesting that the harshest hate comments have come from Canadians, and the person who's actions directly resulted in the kids arrest was a Canadian. Maybe we should be hating Canada too?
Even if I didnt plan to... 1 nobody else can know that, and 2 This threat will cause them considerable distress if they even have the slightest suspicion that I am capable of it, at what point does my right to say whatever I want come in conflict with their right to not have to fear for their lives at someone else's whim?
I encourage you to think more deeply about these things before employing lazy and reactionary logic, allowing yourself to fall for a stereotype which accuses an entire body of people of being lazy and reactionary themselves. In short, please do not be a hypocrite.

... I can say this: you vastly underestimate how many people have actually carried out threats even when across the country.
This is not an "American" issue, it is an isolated incident thus far, something which could potentially happen anywhere. Please dont attribute a single indecent to the philosophy and direction of an entire country composed of a few hundred million people.

Texas is pretty lenient on a few things, but I'm not sure what you're insinuating here.

this whole...thing...shouldn't even be a thing, this is fucking wrong. Jailed over an obvious joke? Lack of proof? (cause clearly if they had the hard copy of the chatlog, they would be embaressed beyong belief...)

Which should we REALLY be investigating?
Problem is though if the boy had actually carried out his joke and no one reported him then everyone would be saying that the police never did their job and we're left with essentially a Catch 22 situation. On the internet there is no real way to tell if a person is really joking as opposed to being physically with them so how would you actually define what's a situation that requires looking into and what's not without knowing the people on the other side? It's a difficult call for law enforcement to make regardless so they try to look into the more dire ones if they see them or are reported.
Investigating is one thing - ARRESTING PEOPLE is another.
